nancy: I felt that i was starving on the Sacred Heart Diet, I was not able to last the full week. I think a diet that involves eating soup with vegetables only and last just 1 week is not set up for long term success. For me this was a complete failure. I have low blood sugar and can’t starve like this.
bridget: In case you all didn’t know the Sacred Heart Diet is aslso known as the CABBAGE SOUP DIET, one of the most stupid diet fads in the world! Its a sure fire way to maybe lose weight temporarily (MAYBE) but then gain it all back WITH INTEREST! I ended up gaining 15 pounds total as a result of this. It lowers your metabolism to be eating nothing but cabbage soup. I needed to INCREAESE my metabolism not lower it!
Tessa: THis diet was equal to a week in HELL! I was starving myself practically, and after a week, I lost 2 lbs that I GAINED BACK in 2 days! Definitely not worht the time or the energy, I can’t beleive I ever bothered with this Sacred HEart Diet.
Leslie: I was initially attracted to the Sacred Heart Medical Diet because it didn’t seem like another gimmick. I love food and here was a menu of great food. I was able to follow the plan for about 7 days but then my life took over. I was in meetings all day, I was flying across the country I just couldn’t prepare the soup and eat as much fruit as I should have. I want to eat well but I also need a diet product that works within my lifestyle. That means I am going to be at restaurants and I need to be able to control my appetite or have a thermogenic to boost my metabolism. A great idea, but not for everyone.
Scott: The diet is actually pretty easy to folllow and seems to be healthier than some. I thougth of it more as a week of cleansing from sugar & processed foods, not really for weight loss though. I might try again in the future when I am feeling unbalanced.
Mariah: I will definitely use the Sacred Heart Diet soup recipe for heart meals in winter and it is a good way to sneak veggies into my husband and kids diet but I wasn’t able to keep the weight off. I am hoping that since it is summer (almost) I will want to eat less and walk and play outside more and I will lose this little tummy bulge I seem to have developed.
sarah: I tried the Sacred HEart Diet becuse I thought it would cleanse my body of impurities. But it felt too much like a “fasting” diet and it made me feel very very deprived. What happened, unforuntaetly, is that i pigged out as soon as i went off this diet. I was so happy that i made it thru the entire week that i went on a feast of pizza, french fries, ice cream, cookies, you name it. And i packed on 10 lbs in the blink of an eye. I know that’s my fault really, becuase i am responsible for what I put in my mouth. However, if i hadn’t felt so deprived by this Sacred heart diet in know i wouldn’t of done that.
marie: There is something nice & simple a about going on a super strict diet for 1 week, and then being done with it. It’s like you just get it out of the way, bam, and your done. I did that last week and it looks like i loose 5 lbs. The thing is i am still not sure whether its just weight loss from having almost no solid food in my stomach. i will report back to you in a few weeks about whether this result was maintained or not.
Ivy: I did well for 3 days on the Sacred Heart Diet and then it was girls night out. I couldn’t resist the margaritas and guacamole and fried corn chips; mexican food is my weakness. I tried to begin again the next day but I was so lethargic and hungrier than I was the night before when I ate and drank just for fun. I am still trying every other day to follow the plan but maybe it is not strict enough for me or something. Maybe I should just have a delivery diet like the Zone. I wish I just had a fast metabolism like all my friends!
Joanie: Currently on day 3 of the Sacred Heart Diet, all I can say is, thank GOD I can still drink coffee, but I am really missing my fried foods. I hope I can stick it out for 4 more days..
jordana: i am not sure if this is doing harm or good bcs I have a slow metabolism too and i don’t wnat to make it slower. Plus i am really really wanting to cheat on this Sacred Heart Diet right about now…..pizza in the break room at work…mmmm…
aurelia: I drink a six pack of diet soda every day. It gives me tons of energy and keeps me from eating. Somehow I am still overweight, Not obese just you know a little chunky. I can’t wear skinny jeans or bikinis like I could when I was 19. I am just getting started doing the Sacred Heart Soup thing and it is good for me but I don’t think I can give up my Tab. I hope I can still lose about 20 pounds. I don’t know how diet soda can be bad but it says so on their site. does anyone know why that is?
Rudy: Does anyone know why I can’t have a banana on the first day? I always have a banana on my cereal, its my staple fruit.
Missy: The Sacred Heart Diet is great if you hate food and love soup. If you are an actual person living in the real world you will NOT be able to follow this. I don’t know why I am so pissed off. I guess because I really wanted to lose weight for this weekend when I have party. Maybe I’ll just starve myself until tomorrow.
Fern: UGH. The Sacred Heart Diet is a lot like going to Catholic Church, it’s all about strictness and deprivation. And just like Catholic Church, as soon as it’s done, you’re free to lapse and totally go crazy til next time.
Kiley: I’m not usually fat or anything but when I came back from vacation to Europe I had gained like 15 pounds. How do all those French women do it?! Anyway, I did the Sacred Heart Soup Diet together with my mom and she lost 10 pounds and I lost at least the 15 I had gained. I don’t know that I could live my life this way but I would say it’s good for if you have gone on an eating binge or want to fit into a special occasion dress or before your wedding.
Marietta: Well I was hoping to lose at least 10 lbs after this week on the Scared Heart Diet, that’s what they promised me. I have only lost 3 & am even more afraid now that it will all just come right back the minute I go back to my normal eating habits. I hope I can maintain, we’ll just have to see.
Nina: Rudy: I felt the same way about the “no banana” rule….i think that was the beginning of the end of this diet for me…it’s hard for me to respect any diet that rules out something as healthy as a banana. I just feel this is a “crash diet” with very little long-term value.
Karen: For me, the Sacred Heart medical diet was a healthy beginning to a weight loss program. The week I was on this, cleaned my system out of refined & processed foods, sort of weaned me off all those unhealthy foods. I only lost 2 lbs that week, but I was better able to begin dieting from that point, became more aware of the foods I was eating. I dont think this should be used strictly as a weight loss method but I thought ti was a good start.
gem362636: I would like to find a good supplement to use along with it s, however every one I have ever tried makes me feel jittery and causes insomnia. I don’t suppose anyone knows of a good one…
precious1: yea i think the Cabbage Soup diet is just a stop-gap measure to drop some quicky water weight if you feel bloated. its not gonna get ridda those thighs!!
But if you wanna make sure you’re not to ballooned up to fit in that dress this might do it. But its no fun i assure you.
Kristen: I was following the plan I thought very strictly and even exercising a little every day. After seven days on the Sacred Heart Diet I had actually gained 5 pounds. There is no scientific or hormonal reason for this. I did everything I was supposed to and I am fatter than ever, whah!
Earl: The week was going well, I began the diet last Sunday and pretty much resisted temptations. I was just invited out for happy hour after work, not sure if I can pass it up. A beer sounds real good right now. Maybe if I just limit it to one or two I won’t blow this whole thing.
eileen: I think it’s weird that on Day One, bananas are totally forbidden, but on Day 4 they have you eating nothing but bananas & skim milk. There’s something about this that seems way off-kilter and unbalanced to me, but I’m on day 2 and maybe i will keep it up.
maybe not.
JT_413: I just don’t see how this is a diet. The Sacred Heart Diet is basically don’t be stupid and eat like an American fatty. I can safely say that because I am one of them. I gained weight in college and have not figured out how to get back in my size 6 jeans. I don’t mean to be glib but seriously, tell me something I don’t know here, people! Don’t eat fried stuff? I got that memo. But how can I keep from eating what we get for lunch at the office or what my fiance makes for dinner? I just don’t have that kind of willpower.
annamay: hmmm i sure like how they tell me the more i eat, the more weight i will lose, that’s a new concept. too bad i just cant eat too much of this soup anymore, i’m glad i only have 2 more days to go on the diet. haven’t stepped on the scale, but i;m sure i’m not at the 10 lb goal of weight loss.
Deirdre: This week I only lost 3 lbs, is it okay to stay on the Sacred Heart Diet another week in order to lose more??
cherrybaby: It’s 81 degrees where I live and too hot for soup!!! If I have to eat this soup for 1 more day I am going to vom. The Sacred Heart Diet may work for medical patients but not for me. Maybe I will keep the idea of taking lots of liquids but do more of a juice cleanse.
francis: am i supposed to be exercising too while on this diet, the waits not really coming off so fast
Gemma: I thought the Cabbage Soup diet would be an excellent way for me to nip my little weight problem in the bud, fast. I did think some of the menu items were a bit weird, but i thought ‘well i will just follow it for a week then see what happens.’
The diet didn’t seem as hard as some people report, but one issue i had was the direction to “Stuff yourself” at each meal. I guess this was to create a feeling of satiety, but for me it made me feel uncomfortable. But, wouldn’t you know, after a week of “stuffing myself” with cabbage soup and bananas and brown rice and veggies, I got into the bad little habit of “stuffing myself.” So that when i went off the diet, (only 3 lbs lighter im sorry to say), I had become accustomed to eating to the point of feeling like i would explode. I had always been taught just the opposite, to stop right before i felt full, or myabe when i was full. But with this Sacred Heart Diet, I became used to eating to the limit of my stomach every time. So you can imagine what happeend when my menu changed form Cabbage SOup to Fried Chicken, from Bananas and Skim Milk to Steak and potatoes. Hmm, can you guess what happened? I packed on 25 lbs in 4 months, because I had stretched my stomach and developed a BIGGER APPETITE!!! Later, I got this under control with a great pill called Hoodia P57, but for a while, i was despondent. This diet is TERRIBLE and teaches TERRIBLE HABBITS! not suggested.
whitney: I;m sorry but to me a diet means not eating. I used to be able to turn off my hunger no problem when I was a teenager. These days I seem to be ravenous all the time. I need something to kill my appetite not to be thinking of food all the time. sorry to anyone who has liked the sacred heart diet but I think it’s kind of effed up.
wayne_542: After 7 days of the diet, I do actually feel pretty good, healthier, cleaner, lighter. I just am very doubtful that the weight will stay off, hopefully I can continue eating more fresh fruits & vegetables every day, and snack on those instead of chips. I know its up to me & my willpower, now that the diet is over.
stacie: yeah, i don’t really understand why the Sacred Heart diet tells u to “stuff yourself…” i’m just disregarding taht instruction, sounds weird.
Tyree: look, just drink at least 8 glasses of water every day and start walking at least 30 minuted every day. It’s a start. I am going slowly and taking my time instead of dealing with a fad diet like the Sacred Heart Soup Plan. When I find a natural supplement I will probably take that as well, at least for the summer.
amie: why cant you have diet soda on the Sacred Heart Diet? Diet soda has zero calories! This diet is extremely confusing and i think some of its recommendations are down right dangerous. I’m done with this, screw it.
no offense to you girls that swear by it.
Stephanie W: Even as a cleansing method, I didn’t find this to be very effective. I guess its good to get your veggies and all that, but my system didnt really feel any cleaner after a week on the Sacred Heart Diet. I thought it was kinda complicated actually. If you wanna good cleanse, I used a Colon Cleanse for Immediate wieght loss I read about on this site, it works better.
Deb: It may have helped get rid of some impurities from my body but this Sacred Heart Diet didn’t give me any energy, none at all. I was really really hungry the whole time, my cravings were worse than they’d ever been before. This is no way to diet, not for anyone that wants to keep their sanity.
Michelle: ENOUGH ALREADY WITH THE FRIGGIN SOUP. I NEED AN APPETITE SUPPRESSANT. THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT EVER WORKED FOR ME. I AM NOT GOING THE EPHEDRA ROUTE AGAIN AND I REALLY WOULD PREFER SOMETHING NATURAL.
belinda: seems like a good way to get fresh foods & avoid processed foods, that was why i tried it (sacred heart). i was able to fit into a dress for a holiday party by the end of the week on this diet but the weight came right back. not good for maintenance, no better than any other crash diet i’ve tried.
Janett M. C.: I am not takeing it as a way to lose weight fast. If I do great but if I don’t at least I eat my veggies and drank my water cut back on nick nacks and get motivated to work out a little.
sitje: I am on day 3 of the diet, I don’t feel deprived as of yet and i can now get into a pair of pants that didn’t fit a week ago. So I guess everybody is diffenent. Really enjoy the soup.
Susan: I am on day 3 of the diet. I am not feeling deprived, not stuffing myself, feeling like I have energy, I have lost my craving for caffeine and sweets – and my stomach looks flatter. I figure this is a good jump start to follow up with a good diet – one like the American Diabetes Association might suggest – lower in carbs, lower in fat, more vegetable and a reasonable amount of fruit.
Lauren: The cabbage soup diet is a ridiculous gimmick that resurfaces every few years like a virus,. and people fall prey to it because they think it is a “quick fix.” Well i tried this back in the 90s, one of the previous times around, and it cuased my blood sugar to plummet, made me sick, and ultimately lowered my metabolism. After i went off this diet I GAINED 17 LBS THAT I HAVE NEVER LOST. This diet was the beginning of my true weight problem, and i would never ever do it again.
Rita: Thought the diet was very manageable when I read it over. By 3pm the first day I had a severe headache and was vomiting by 9pm. I am healthy, have a physical every year and was bummed that I could not continue!
Missy: I have been on the Sacred Heart Diet for 3 days now and I’m staying strong. It’s not that bad actually, I lost 2 pounds already after only 2 days. (I am 5′6” 122lbs on the day I started it, now I am 120lbs) My whole family is doing it, and I got to say that if you get creative it’s fine. I am more regular and feel better all around. I sleep better at night and don’t feel bloated or heavier after any meal. I eat as much fruit and veggies as I want and I have 2-3 bowls of soup a day. Last nite my family made baked yams (instead of the baked potato) with grilled veggies (summer squash, zuccinni, onions) topped with garlic and onion powder. It was delicious! Today we had a fruit salad for lunch and a wok stir fry of over 5 veggies topped with worchestire and soy sauce. Also delicious. If you get creative, trust me, it’s a great way to feel energized. You don’t have to deprive yourself just eat as much as you want of the foods until you’re full and make sure to exercise at least 30 min. a day.
Colette: Maybe it would’ve been better if i had been more creative on the Sacred heart Diet. I got realy bored with it, and the 4 lbs I lost during that week came right back on the moment I was off the diet & meeting friends for dinner. I blame myself for not being more responsible in the end, but i don’t think this is the best diet for “weight loss” specifically, since you feel deprived and many many people end up gaining the weight back. Next time, I’ll do soemthing different.
SueBee: Today is my 3rd day on diet. I weighed in this morning and have lost 2#. I was hoping for the 7, but am happy with 2# in 2 days. Maybe by day 7 it will be 10#. I don’t feel deprived. The soup is very good. Day 1 I mixed fresh fruit with a can of fruit cocktail that had 11 g of sugar. I Quit eating that batch, was concerned with the sugar. Does anyone know if canned fruit in light syrup is allowed? I feel great, doing some exercise. I will keep you posted on my progress.
doreen: well, it’s not very surprising to see somebody on day 3 raving about the Cabbage Soup (sacred heart) diet. What IS less common is to see somebody who still likes this b.s. urban legend after 3 weeks or a month, or 2 months. A year? Forget it. Any temproary starvation weight will have long been packed back on. THIS IS A SILLY GIMMICK AND IT DOES NOT WORK LONG TERM. I am sad that you all will have to learn this like i did – the hard way.
claudia: I TRIED THIS DIET AND I GOT THE WORST HEADACHE OF MY LIFE!! THE CALORIES INTAKE WAS TOO DRASTIC. NEVER AGAIN!!! I WILL RATHER BE CHUNKY!
Sally: I am on day 6 of the sacred heart diet and loving it!! I don’t see how anyone could feel like they are starving on this diet. You can eat all the soup and all you want of whatever the item is for the day you are on. I ate almost non-stop! I have lost 8 pounds. I intend to be on this diet for two weeks. Then give it a rest and return to it. Then I won’t feel completely deprived. It has taught me that I can feel full on less food. My acid reflux is gone since I don’t eat fat and fried foods.
Jodi: Well I made the mistake of sticking with the Sacred Heart diet for 2 weeks and despite the fact that I’d lost 3 lbs the first week, I ended up GAINING 6 LBS by the time the “diet” was over!! I also ate all the time, no deprivation here, just the opposite in fact.
sandra: I tried this diet after trying exercise to lose about 10 kilos a few years ago. I stayed on it for 2 weeks which was like hell at the start, but by the second week I felt really good and at the end I found I actually craved more fruit and veges in my diet, plus I have managed to keep the weight off for 3 years, it seemed to help me keep losing weight after that and curbed my craving for processed & comfort foods. I think it would be a dangerous diet to stay on for an extended period, but I felt it helped me get the taste for fruit and veges again and I felt really good.
margaret2: yeah i now LOVE fruits and veggies due to the cabbage Soup diet and i never have to exerecise at all anymore even a year later! This just got my body into eating healthy stuff and now i never even want bad foods anymore. For me it has been like a Miracle! Dont listen to these Negative posts only the positive ones.
jayne: Well, I am sorry for my skepticism but I don’t see how eating almost nothing but cabbage soup and fruit for 2 weeks is going to magically cultivate this lifelong passion for fruits and veggies.
After i finished this GRUELING Sacred Heart Diet, I never wanted to see another cabbage in my life, let alone fruits. I immediately ordered delivery pizza and it was all downhill from there.
A “crash diet” like this i simply NOT CAPABLE of generating lifelong healthy habits, and i frankly suspect that some of you are trying to do a commercial for this diet.
I’m on South Beach now, and while it’s no “quick fix,” i feel good and I’m still EATING.
Julie Hill: Seriously people…a little will power!
I did this diet last year and lost 9 lbs. and my Husband lost 13 lbs. I have managed to keep it off, and I actually make the soup every other week, bowl it up, and eat it every other day to keep myself in the rhythm. It is really what you make of it. There is nothing “unhealthy” about this diet. If you are person who is used to eating crap all the time, well then of course it will be hard to do this…however…either you want to change your body and eating habit..or you dont! But dont let your lack of will power discourage those of us whom are ready for a change. It is hard. But, what do you want??? It isnt supposed to be easy!
I do change it up a little bit. I use FF chicken broth by swanson and I add in a can of Campbells French onion soup. (the little can) It only has 60 calories in the whole can, so, that doesnt add much at all to the entire pot of soup..and the taste is so much easier to enjoy. I also drink Carb Counter milk which has the bare minimum of carbs, fat etc. I drink it everyday. Not too much, but a little goes a long way. Keep up the good work…work harder to enjoy it if need be..and dont give up afterward. If you continue on the Special K diet after your first week, I have found that it keeps the weight off. Happy eatin!
Anya: After what I went through on the Sacred Heart diet,I’m surprised to see that anyone has actualy lost weight from it. I am not going to argue that it isn’t a healthy diet, because it is, especially compared to many of the other options out there. What surprised me most was that I did not feel deprived, as I expected. Stil, in terms of weight loss, well, I didnt see any. I was eating lghter but lost zero lbs.And I had bad gas, btw, which was unpleasant but not intolerable. I just have to rate this one with a negative thumb.
Larry: Who said that you had to stop after 7 days? I on my 11th day and feeling great no more cravings and 15 lbs lighter. All of you negative folks get a life no one said it would taste like lobster.
Judi: the diet is good (sacred heart) i feel really really realy healthy. no weight loss yet, its been a week..? maybe i will stick on a little longer &see.
Diane: Well good luck toyou Judi but I stayed on this Sacred heart diet a full 3 weeks and only lost 2 lbs. I expected a lot more from it, since I was eliminating so much crap from my diet. Not sure why i didn;t lose, I was exercising too. I’ve done MUCH better on the Five Factor diet, lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks already. And I’m constantly eating, I think maybe the exercise plan makes it easier to lose, I not sure. Better for me anyway.
santana: Well I am 24 years old and 270 lbs trying to just get a jump start on things then continue with a more balanced diet.I am on day 2 and have lost 3 pounds so far the best way to lose the weight is to get moving. If you are out in the sun the weight will just fall off give it a try.I will check back in Sunday 8th for a weight in
Tessa: I see they are calling the Cabbage Soup diet by the name “sacred heart” diet now…apparently they were claiming that Sacred Heart Hospital in montreal developed this diet.
HOWEVER, in 2004 Sacred Heart Hospital put out a press release basically saying they never had anything to do with this diet. Its the SAME OLD FAD formuerly known as the Cabbage Soup diet. I am not sure what to believe, but feel you may be hungry on nothing but cabbage soup for a week. I tried it a few years back and i lose 4 lbs and gained back 7. In the meantime, i was starvign and will never touch cabbage soup again.
santana: Sacred Heart Diet- Well i am on day 7 today and I am down 5 pounds I did cheat Thursday so thats what I get huh?…anyways I will try to lose 2-3 more lbs today working out@ THE GYM…good luck guys March ,7,2009
JOan: OH boy, I did not know until this review that the sacred Heart diet was the same as the cabbage soup! That diet really messed up my metabolism I did about 10 yrs ago, lost 8 lbs, then GAINED 17 lbs, over the following month. I’ve been carrying around this extra weight for a decade now, all because of this silly, diet. I was hoping that I would learn about a proven, healthyful diet but tis the same old thing. Thumb down fo r the Sacred Heart diet.
jodie: How about switching it up a little, instead of going like 0 calorie intake, maybe we could just eat tyhe soup for lunch and half our dinner. still have a normall breakfast and a small portion of normall dinner. This way, we’re getting all our vegies but cutting only about half our calorie intake. I think this is a great SAFE way to do it. Good luck to you all.
diana: First off wow I’m not sure if I should be surprised by alot of peoples reactions. Or should have expected them considering we as americans. Are one of the most obese countries in the world. Second it’s not the same as the cabbage soup diet n whoever said that. You need to do your research a little more. Third you can’t eat bananas one the first day or anything like that. Because believe it or not bananas are high cal items. Don’t believe it look it up. Fouth it’s a diet that you must stick to when your first doing it rule for rule. You can’t change what you don’t like n keep what you do and expect results. And just because you didn’t lose pounds doesn’t mean you didn’t lose inches. Yes working out helps alot but thats a given. I’m sorry I just think alot of you are being very lazy and are mad cause you want a quick fix right now. Sorry nothing in life will ever be that quick.
Susan: I have done this diet several times and use it to jump start my weight loss program. It cleanses my system and helps me get rid of the cravings for all the processed foods that I don’t need but crave. Plus the quick weight loss results helps me to stay motivated and focused on eating healthy. Just take it one day at a time and remind yourself that its only one week.
Al: Been on the diet before, and I’m currently doing it again. The first time I did it I lost 11 pounds in a week. And it’s true, some of it is water weight and you’ll gain it back, but I was able to keep off about 6 of those 11 pounds, which still isn’t bad at all for a week. It’s a great diet to jump start a longer term diet, and it’s a great one week body cleanse. You can’t expect to do this diet for 7 days, lose a lot of weight, and go back to eating garbage again.
bunette: I love the soup! If I was served it at a restaurant I would be pleased! Very hearty! It is weird eating it for b-fast though at first! It is good to know that you can eat filling foods and actually be more ful;l than eating a lot of junk and being hungry an hour later. This soup gives you a low calorie healty way to eat when your hungry! It gets you off the junk!
jan: I have just started this diet made the soup which is great I see it as a way to stop me snacking on bad foods and encourage me to eat healthier my goal is to lose 10kg
MM: I always do the Sacred Heart Diet after holidays. If you’re like me, you tend to over indulge on goodies and alcohol this time of year…gaining a few pounds in return. I use this “diet” to rid my body of all those impurities and get my stomach and tastebuds back in working order. I eat healthy 99% of the time, so this works to get me back on track.
