joan mcelroy: Has ANYONE had success on this Somersize diet??

Lynette: I have been on this diet for almost 3 weeks and no weight loss. I think it is all the fat you eat! My fat is sure not burning off. I’m hungry alot also. They say it takes 4 weeks before it works, but I am ready to quit. I would like to know if anyone really loses weight.

stephanie: I will say this. I have been somersizing for three years and i love it. although i do not buy any of her products. i cook my own food. as long as you follow the rules of fat/pro carbs/veg. you will lose weight. i have lost 30lbs and have keeped it off.

Chris: Um I am not about to eat prepackaged foods, nor am I goonna cook all the time. Just want a pill I can take that works whether I work out every day or not. thx

jo: been on and off Somersize for a few years. if you stick with it, it works but it is costly and you DO have to cook ALL THE TIME. i think suzanne is well intentioned but does not have our life styles, so she is somewhat detached from reality.

Terri: I think most of you are missing the point. I’ve been reading up on the Somerisize program. You don’t have to buy her food and it’s not suppose to be a “diet”; it’s suppose to be a way of eating/living. Americans eat eat and eat more. Her combination of foods makes sense and I plan to stick to it. I believe a lot of people don’t like the program because they don’t want to give up the way they are eating now. In her latest book “Fast and Easy”, she gives different options for people that don’t have a lot of time to cook, so that can’t be used as an excuse either. You WILL have to give up packaged food and refined sugar products, but we know they’re not good for us anyway. C’mon people, we need to get smart about our eating and exercising habits!

Wendi: Everyone seems to be critiquing Suzanne Somers and not her diet program. It is suppose to be how you eat on daily bases, not a diet. I liked it. Also, I lost weight easily and without even trying. After using her plan for a couple of weeks it just became how I ate. I did it with really thinking about it. I lost about 30 lbs and reached my goal weight. Every time she had a new book I would buy it. Then she did seem to give in to making more by marketing her own products. After that started I decided not by her last book because every recipe wanted you to use her sauces or special seasonings. She did not give alternates choices if you don

Karen: I think like all diet or food lifestyle plans you need to have the proper mind set and commitment for them to work. This plan does seem to be working for me. It works well for me because I don’t have to calculate things, just follow a few basic rules. I havn’t purchased any products and I’ve lost 13 pounds in less than 4 weeks. I believe that is a good healthy pace. We’ll see how it continues.

Susannah: I decided to Somersize about eleven years ago after I turned 50. Both of my parents had heart problems and either high blood pressure or diabetis. I lost 30 pounds in only 3 months and have basically kept it off for 11 years! Other than the sporadic “back-sliding” of a 5-8 lb. seasonal winter weight gain after which I simply cut out the offending weight loss sabatoging culprits (for me either too many carbs or sweets.) This is for me the most freeing way to eat and only shows what you can do even after menopause at 50, even with a family history of health issues. After my 30 pound loss I was wearing a size 4 (I don’t say this to gloat–I have a very small frame/bones) but now am in a size 6-8 which is still a good size for me. Better yet my cholesterol went from around 275 to 174 with an increase in HDL and decrease in HDL and triglycerides!!! I have only spent about $25.on her first book which was the only one out at that time, plus I have bought her newer books as I see them at yard sales or thrift stores. Hardly a bad investment for the return!! I didn’t even buy any of the products that have come out in the years following her initial book and did do some of her recipes which were yummy but mosstly took her “principles” and adapted them to my way of eating “southern style with a healthy twist”. I think all of you negative nay-sayers just don’t want to give up ANYTHING and may just be either sneeking in some things that are sabotaging your results, or may not be willing to do a little cooking. Personally, when done right, and there is a lot of flexibility in your choices for doing so, I was never hungry, lost the craving for carbs and the world’s biggest sweet tooth, and my husband and I could not believe how much fabulous food we were eating while the inches and pounds disappeared. By the way, 2 of my best friends did it at the same time with similar results. Our doctors couldn’t believe our blood work results when we told them what all we were eating–my friends’ Dr. even re-checked his blood because he thought it was a mistake–it wasn’t!! I know this is a long blog but I simply had to give “the other side of the story”–one of the many success stories of those of us who are grateful for Suzanne Somers insightful way of eating for a healthy life. By the way I believe she does really care about the huge increase in the number of huge people and is trying to get people to stop looking for some magic pill to solve their problems when the answer is right under their nose!!!

Susannah (again): Caroline–You are still missing the point. If you misunderstood what I was saying, I didn’t spend BIG BUCKS on anything unless you want to call $25 for the first book big bucks. I am the original “Ms. Cheap”. I don’t make much $ and yet you don’t have to buy the more expensive foods that may be in some of her recipes but you do have to be creative to make some Somersized adaptations. For instance, I made the best meatloaf with groud beef, onions,mushrooms, eggs, salsa (in a jar) and then added protein powder (from the health food store or grocery) as a binder (instead of breadcrumbs). Top it off with more salsa and even sour cream if you like. I’m no gourmet cook but it was delicious and inexpensive. I have it with several vegetables like zuchinni and yellow squash sliced lengthwise, drizzled with butter and olive oil (which by the way you can get @Big Lots) and sprinkled with garlic salt or garlic powder (also cheap at Big Lots or Dollar General). Put it in a toaster oven (or regular oven) and cook till it’s golden brown. You need to get over your fear of FRESH FOODS– so many people are afraid of spending a little money on fresh foods but I can assure you losing your health and winding up in the hospital is alot more expensive than fresh foods. Also I have to respond to your “BUT” (no pun intended) regarding the fact that I was ready to lose weight…and nothing was going to stop me along with the “scary family history”. It’s true I WAS motivated although my parents didn’t die at an early age–they were both 84 years old–but here’s the point, if you are only 31 (not 50 like I was) and you are fat and don’t like what you see in the mirror with your clothes OFF, then what more motivation do you need? Please don’t misunderstand me, I’m not talking about hating yourself because you don’t look like some Hollywood hotty. I’m talking about simply taking control of your own weight and health and stop making excuses about why you can’t lose weight because of this, that or the other. I heard a man say once “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you always got”. Pretty good advice!! Only I might add the older you get the more you get (of whatever it is you have) more fat, higher blood pressure, higher cholesterol, Diabetes, etc, etc. Not to mention your children. Some of peoples’ comments seem to be ticked cause Suzanne Somers is rich, perky and blond (or some of the other comments) but PLEASE don’t let the fact that you may not be, stop you from taking CONTROL of YOUR situation. Just because you are “a single mom” doesn’t mean you can’t do something. I’m sure that cutting out whatever it is that you are eating now that has got you wishing you did not “look so big”, whatever that is whether it’s 10 lbs. or 110, would leave room in your budget for some “fresh foods”. By the way you can get any of the S.S. books at the library if you can’t afford to buy them. Just reading all the different “testimonials” of people who have lost even enormous amounts of weight will certainly get you motivated(they are in all but her first book–EAT GREAT,LOSE WEIGHT). There are even cases where people were handicapped and couldn’t exercise and still lost weight. In closing, maybe Suzanne Somers is NOT for you, I’m not getting paid for selling you on Suzanne Somers, but I can promise you this ,what she is saying is THE TRUTH, it is the sugars and the things that turn to sugar and raise your insulin level that are causing our nations epidemic of obesity. Add that to the amount of fat consumed at the same meal and you’ve got a problem. If you find something else that works for you SUGAR BUSTERS or whatever then that’s great but don’t fall for the lie that it’s the FAT that’s making you fat–it’s not. Just re-read my 1st blog and read the info in Suzanne’s last three books.for the facts on sugar vs. fat. I hope this doesn’t sound patronizing, I know it’s not easy to reprogram our thinking, but really when someone said “Has ANYONE done well on this program?” Like it’s just a bunch of “B.S.” That is just another one of those self-defeating assumptions that will get you nowhere. Get off your “good intentions”, get with it (whatever IT may be for you, but don’t think some pill is going to be a healthy answer) and hopefully you’ll be glad you took the tough love/encouragement of a 61 year older but wiser woman instead of some whiner who is always going to say “but…I can’t…I don’t…if only I had…I’m just a…” I wish you the best–you ARE worth it!!!

Marsha: I, for one,have read all of Suzanne Sommers ‘diet’ books and her bio. She has struggled with her weight all her life and has found a healty, great tasting way to manage that problem which she calls ‘Somersize’. I have tried it and after reaching ketosis, I lost, on average, 1.5 lbs per DAY. It took awhile to get to ketosis because I had a terrible sugar addiction that I had to get over and my metabolism was shot, but I was NEVER HUNGRY because, if you read the books and follow her plan, she tells you that you can eat until you are satisfied. There are no limits or portion control and I loved the results. I lost 70 lbs in 4 months. This plan is ’similar’ to Adkins or South Beach because it is a no/low carb diet but I enjoyed the fresh foods, healthy attitude and tremendous weight loss that I saw on a daily basis, with NO EXCERCISING! Imagine how much more I could’ve lost even faster if I’d gotten off my butt and worked out a few times a week. Quit buying pre-packaged crap off the t.v. and get some real meat and vegetables into your body and maybe you’ll feel better.

sandy: i used this “way of eating” a few years ago, and I lost 100 lbs in 8 months. Of course since then I have strayed and had another baby and put all that weight back on. that is the downfall..once you go back to potaoes you’re done. I never purchased food from her site, I used resources from recipe sites and saved money. To be in fact I have restarted and hope to be in better shape by the time next summer rolls around.

Susanne: I have not tried Suzanne Somers’program yet, my question to everyone is very specific: Who has tried her Sugar Substitute SomerSweet, and how does it taste? Also, her program seems to be very similar in theory to South Beach, insofar as she recommends avoiding sugars and carbs for the first coupla weeks, then gradually adding back some healthy carbs after your sugar cravings are gone.

cheryl: I started somersizing 9 days ago and have already lost 8 pounds. I did not buy any products, just 1 book. I found the plan to be simple and it obviously works for me.

Julie Wright: I have read the ‘cons’ on the previous page and nowhere in Suzanne’s books does she say that good wholewheat bread and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables can’t be consumed. I fail to see how if following her menu plans a person could not easily reach their healthy levels of good fats and fibre. I feel great on the basic plan and use the recipes for family or special occasions. I feel healthy eating this way and my digestion problems have disappeared.

Val: I have noticed that the people who do a thumbs down for somersizing dont really have the full understanding of the plan. Yes you can purchase her products but it isnt necessary. It works. Thats all I know for me. It takes time to get the sugar out of your system, so if you dont seem to be losing, bear with your own body. It will adjust after years of ’sugaring’ and caffenating. Stick to fruit in the a.m. as well as grains. AND, the commentator says there is not a testimonial section on her website, it is still there and that is where I get my inspiration from so many who have lost huge amounts of weight. I love the food and the results and could eat this way for life. Its not a diet. Good on you Suzannah, loved your blog. So right on. Keep positive everyone…dont go negative.

Martha: I’m not sure what people think they need to buy. I have one book — the first one, I think. I chose this nutritional approach specifically because I didn’t have to spend money on it. I eat only what I buy in the grocery store. I have lost 30 pounds and have never felt better in my life. Is it rigid? Yes, at first. You have to have your radar on for sugar or anything that metabolizes like sugar (refined flours, etc.). And you can’t do it halfway. If you give it 30 diligent days, you really should see the “melt.” I would say, however, that if you’re really ready and serious about it, any diet will work. If you’re not, nothing will.

Martha: I would add one more comment. If you’ve tried it without results for 3 or more weeks, try putting your food choices under a microscope for sugar — and anything that is refined. As Somers makes clear in all her books, this is not something you can do halfway. Can you give up alcohol completely for a month? If not, don’t start this diet. Can you take the time when you begin to read every single label on every single food? If you do, you’ll be stunned at how much sugar is in almost everything we buy. Don’t assume that can of tomato sauce you have in your pantry is safe — it most likely contains sugar. And it will keep you from losing weight on this diet. That kind of rigidity isn’t for everyone. But, as I said earlier, it works like a charm for me. And, yes, you do have to detox from all the sugar we all consume daily. It took me about 10 days to be completely over sugar. My health was worth the cravings and grumpy moods for those few days. My doctor tells me she’s never had a patient’s health improve so dramatically from something as simple as giving up sugar. Buck up and go for it! You’ll be glad you did.

Karen: I tried Somersize about five years ago and lost 25 pounds in about six months. I was very pleased. The weight stayed off for several years but you need to make lifestyle changes after you lose your goal weight for the long-term (ie exercise and healthy eating habits). It is a eating plan based on the glycemic index, not a low-carb diet. PROS: This diet is the best choice for people like me who do not want portion their food. You are not hungry ever while on this eating plan. You do not have to count points or calories. You can eat whenever you are hungry (ie. three meals a day or snack throughout the day). It is more balanced than a strictly low carb diet like Adkins. As a carbaholic I liked that it allows you to eat carbs (whole grains only), proteins, and fruit. Also, unlike the South Beach Diet, everything is natural — either whole or fat free — not so-called “low fat” food with tons of fillers and additives that you can’t even pronounce! It’s easy to follow once you learn the “rules” The tricky part is that you need to strictly adhere to them in order to see the fastest results. That means no “funky foods”, no combinations of fats and carbs together in one meal, and eating fruit only on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 3 hours after a meal). It is inexpensive. You do not need to purchase any pre-made food like Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem. Most of your food is fresh meat, cheese and produce from the regular grocery store. You can actually eat in a restaurant without a huge problem. (I even ate fast food by taking the burger off the bun, and of course no fries) CONS: Forget sugar (or any form of corn syrup, fructose, etc.), caffeine and alchohol. You will experience headaches from withdrawl for the first two weeks but after that your cravings for these things go away (well, except for the alchohol which you can have in moderation once you get to your goal weight). It does take some planning and preparation of foods but the Somersize books have some great recipes! My favorite is the no-carb pizza (crust is made with eggs, cream cheese and parmesan cheese). On that note, it can be unhealthy if you only eat from the “pro-fats” food group (i.e. bacon, eggs, cheese). OTHER CONSIDERATIONS: If you can’t live without nuts, bananas, avacado, corn, potatoes, white bread, or white rice, this is probably not the diet for you. Also if you tend to “cheat” here or there, you will not see results on this diet. If you are a diabetic, this could be a good choice for you but you should check with your doctor first.

Martha: I agree with Karen — she’s right on. If you’re looking for something that is quick and effective, this does do it. If you don’t cheat, you will see the “melt” happen surprisingly quickly — and, in my case, I had begun to feel so much better I really wasn’t even noticing the weight change. However, it you require something that is quick, effective AND easy, this isn’t it. You have to pay attention and commit to it. And you have to be willing to give some things up. If you aren’t willing to make changes in your eating habits for the rest of your life, then you’re probably condemned to cycles of yo-yo dieting. Sorry, folks, there’s no magic bullet.

Arthur: Okay, probably the first male to “weigh-in” on this blog, but I’m not embarrassed that I’ve “Somersized”. It’s too bad that this diet hasn’t worked for all, I guess we all have different metabolisms and react differently to different foods. Therefore, I’m giving the “nay-sayers” the benefit of the doubt. My testimonial is that I did this back in 2001 and lost 40 lbs. I kept the weight off for a number of years as I stuck with it and didn’t allow myself to gain the weight. Guess what, I made a mistake and went back to eating whatever, whenever I wanted it. Needless to say, now that I’ve gained back the 40 lbs. I’m a believer. Anyway, I started again this week (1/5/09) and am already down 5 lbs. I’m feeling my energy level come back and am excited to get back to my 2001 weight. Like I said, maybe we all tick differently, but this works for me because I can still eat until I’m satisfied and I don’t feel hungry. Good luck to all!!!

Martha: Terrific, Arthur. I know what you mean about feeling so much energy. And, by all means, don’t think this is a nutritional approach only for women. My husband, who has never carried an extra pound in his life, joined me in Somerisizing and lowered his triglycerides dramatically. Sugar is poison in all of its forms. What I can’t figure out — and I admit that I’m dense — is what folks are talking about when they refer to the foods being too expensive and tasting bad? You don’t have to buy anything with the Suzanne Somers label — I never have. And from the grocery store perpective, a bunch of fresh broccoli isn’t more expensive than one of those frozen concoctions — and if you don’t like plain vegetables, sprinkle some cheese on them. Nor does a can of tomato sauce that doesn’t have sugar in it cost more than one that does. I completely understand if the issue is that the diet is too restrictive for your lifestyle. But I don’t believe anyone can support an argument that it is too expensive to adhere to. If you don’t want to do it and it doesn’t work for you, that’s very good for you to know. But it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have value or won’t work for someone else.

Donna: I was bone skinny all my life, and sarted gaining weight about 3 years ago, I went from 98 lbs, to 138 lbs, I feel the effects of the weight, no energy, tired all the time, I bought one of Somers books, about 5 months ago, and started reading only, because I was to tired to start anything, but what I did do, was start paying attention and logging what I was eating, and to my surprise, “SUGAR”, liters of root beer, chocolate, fruit cake, almost one a week, rice cakes, cookies, potatoes, in fact “Everything” the one thing that stood out was the part I read about taking your clothes off and look at your middle, guess what? that is where everything was piling up, I had rolls, in the front and the back, and no where else. I started this plan about a week ago, my body is freaking out for a sugar fix, but I won’t give in. I figured if this was all a hoax to just sell products and books, then I wouldn’t feel anything, wrong! I feel for the first time in my life what it is to withdrawl from something. I work in a hospital, and have heard what sugar can do to the body, no wonder breast cancer patients are told to get rid of it. I don’t know what other posters are talking about when they are saying it is expensive, but I went to the farmers market and bought veggies, fruit, fish and poultry, I left he potatoes, carrots, and bananas, in the store, I didn’t buy soda, candy, fruit cake, or any other cake, no rice patties, no choclate, no nuts, no processed foods, no potatoe chips, pretzels, and I spent less buying good fresh food, than I did buying junk. I am off to give this a try, because my health is more important to me the older I’m getting, If I don’t do something now, I know for sure it will just get worse not better! Good luck to all!

Dorothy: I have somersized in the past and loved it. Now after 2 children (i didn’t diet while pregnant) I am back to it. I never buy any of the food products and still see great results. In 9 days, I lost 5 pounds- mostly water probably. I do not feel hungry and think the recipes are easy to make but mostly I stick to fruit then cheerios with fat free milk for breakfast, salad with egg and veggies at lunch, and veggies with meat for dinner. I love this plan and it is easy to stay with long term since most foods are allowed- just watch what you combine them with.

Alicia: Positive: Most successful eating system I have ever found & am losing weight. It doesn’t cost more than regular eating; not eliminating all carbs – just eating them apart from protein. Arthur: Just an update from my above post (about 12 above) from mid-January. Today is February 28th and I am down 18 pounds. I’m pleased with my progress so far, as I’ve certainly had a couple of cheats here and there. Let me know if I’m missing something, but I don’t understand why people are hungry on this diet. Granted, I’m probably eating less calories, but given that it’s more about combination of foods and less about portions, I haven’t had the hunger issues. Again, this works for me and understand it isn’t for everyone.

Susan: I’m noticing a lot of negativity to Suzanne’s diet plan. Get real, people. Not every diet is for every person. Carbs were making me fat. But, I love them. Suzanne’s diet lets me eat carbs, and still lose weight. Just read the book, and eat the carbs correctly. I have never bought any of the Somersize products, except the first book. I’ve been eating this way for 6 yrs. It’s a “no brainer”, once you grasp the basic concept; don’t mix fats and carbs, and eat fruit alone. It’s healthy, and inexpensive; unless you just don’t cook at all. The trick to this diet, (and it does work, if you follow it) is READING the book. I no longer have to be as strict as at the beginning. I even eat hamburgers out. Just take it off the bun!!

georgie: I have tried Somersize. It took me about 6 weeks to start loosing weight but stuck to the program diligently. After a total of 3 – 4 months, I had lost 35lbs and kept it off now for almost 4 years. I had to change my eating habits. I did not purchase any of her products but found I was constantly having to keep good food made that was easy to grab and go. I also was frequently in the grocery store. Once the “Melt” starts, it keeps on going. THUMBS UP!

Stacy: Started the Somersize program 4 weeks ago and LOVE it. Spent $5 for the used book on amazon, never hungry, never counting calories. Hardest thing, giving up my a.m. coffee. But don’t miss is at all, now I have decaf tea w/ cream and stevia sweetner (an all natural herb) and I like it better than cofee. I have so much more energy and it’s so easy to eat out. For all the negatives mentioned above, you’re not doing it right! A typical day of eating for me: breakfast; a beautiful fruit salad (wait 20 minutes) bowl of oatmeal w/ non-fat milk, stevia natural sweetner, cinnamon, toast (spelt bread w/ NO sugar, sprayed with I can’t believe it’s not butter – sprinkled with cinnamon and Truvia (another stevia blend but tastes better on toast. Lunch (3 hours later) an omlet with ham, onions, peppers, sharp cheese, 3 slices bacon OR some soup I’ve made and a salad with bacon, crumbled blue cheese and a SUGAR FREE italian dressing. SNACK: 3hours later, fruit, or sugarsnap peas and a slice of sharp cheese. DINNER: Grilled Salmon with lemon dill butter, grilled asparagus w/ butter, cauliflower mashed potatoes (you’ll hardly notice they’re not real potatoes, Dessert: slice of cheesecake with fresh whipped cream (recipe from Suzanne Somer’s book, or a dish of homemmade ice cream. What is not to like about this way of eating? My advice is this: You do not need to buy any of her products to do this. You do need to follow that plan exactly and read labels on everything to look for hidden sugars. It takes some time at first, but once you do it for a few weeks, it become second nature. This is NOT a diet!! It’s learning to combine foods differently than we were taught by the mainstream! If you had told me a few years ago that I could not have coffee, alcohol, white bread etc. . . I would say that is near impossible. But I have done my research over the years, spend time with my naturalpathic doctors who is also an M.D., and Somersizing sems to fit the bill on all levels. Detoxing your system from sugar is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Sugar causes inflammation in our bodies which can result in a host of diseases. Research inflammation and you’ll see what I mean. Suzanne Somers has def done her homework. Any negative comments are ignorance, and I mean that in a nice way. You can’t find good nutrition in a box, you have to buy fresh food, and cook it yourself! Our family spends more time cooking TOGETHER and it’s been great! Totally thumbs up from me!

Joyce: I have been SS’ing for about 1 1/2 years now and love it. Somersizing is not a diet, it is a “way of eating”. Level 1- teaches you how to recognize refined sugars and properly combine foods. Yes, this does mean eliminating certain veggies and grains but only temporarily. Once the body has rid itself of the sugars, you will experience the “melt”. This is where the numbers on the scale goes down and the numbers on the clothing tags decrease. Level 2 is where you can start to add back some of the foods that were left out of your menu’s in level 1. The reasons that you eliminate these foods in level 1 is simple; you are riding your body of anything that breaks down into sugar and is then stored as sugar. Potatoes, corn, carrots, garden peas and white flour all are starches and break down into sugars. When you add them back into your diet (way of eating) you DO need to see how your body reacts to them and they are not something that you want to eat everyday. Maybe once or twice a week. Since I have been Somersizing, I have lost 40 pounds and kept it off. This lifestyle change has been nothing but good for me and my family. If you are trying to Somersize and are not getting the results that you think you should be, then you are not doing something right. Suzanne does say that exercise is something that everyone should be doing along side of eating a properly balanced diet. If this is done right then you will not be hungry, you will have energy and you will lose weight. Most people have a hard time understanding that in order to lose weight you have to feed your body. If you don’t feed it and you decide to cut down the calories you take in, all you are doing is throwing your body into starvation mode. And it is going to hold onto everything that it can to keep it alive. If you feed it “good” things like fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats and whole grains (properly combined) you will lose weight. The Americans that we knew, grand parents and great grands, used to cook good wholesome foods that were NOT loaded with sugars and preservatives are here anymore and we have become too relying on the boxed meals that are loaded with hidden sugars and chemicals and that is what we are putting into our bodies. Who knows what the things that we can’t pronounce are going to do to us in our older years… Even if you don’t completely come to terms with Somersizing at least try this… Cook from scratch. Complete meals. And instead of meat and potatoes every day change it up and have a whole grain pasta with veggies made in a homemade sauce… Do this for a month and see if you don’t start to feel better… This is really what Somersizing is all about… Cooking good food that’s good for you.

Elizabeth: I lost 20lbs on this in 3 months and have kept it all off for 5 years. Don’t try it if your not a cook. The key is home cooking. The products are not that great but it doesn’t really matter if you can cook and be creative. I am 31 and this is the only diet I have ever been on. I never felt deprived and always full. The only hard this is that since I have become slim, I have taken up marathon running and its hard to get enough carbs for long runs. So I have to cheat those days. Maybe not for everyone but worked for my Aunt and myself.

Sarah: I have found somersizing to be very affective. I have had amazing results with this diet. You do not need to buy her products to be on this diet. I have lost 20lbs in one month and 10 lbs. thereafter until I reached my goal weight. I have done this diet while nursing an infant. You do not have to cut back calories on this diet. I never felt hungry or deprived.

rosanne marie: I first tried the somersize eating plan 2 yeares ago and I began to melt away; as my husband and friends would say. I never felt deprived or at a loss for energy. Sadly I I stopped this way of eating and slowly gained my weight back. I am trying to break the high sugar carb habit again so I can achieve the results I had previously.

Shyla: It’s been many years since I’ve Somersized. I would say last time I was on the plan was 2001. Suzanne has obviously updated the plan significantly since then, since I don’t know what people here are talking about when they say “special foods” and “special exercises.” I don’t remember buying any special sauces from her website or doing any Suzanne-designed exercises. If you follow the basic guidelines of the plan well enough, you can create your own meals with stuff you can get at any grocery store. I thought her recipes were basically hit and miss. The cheesecake wasn’t sweet enough, but I love the pork chops covered in rosemary sauce. My mom was on the plan for a while also, and she makes those pork chops for herself and my stepdad to this day… not because they’re following the plan, but simply because they really like them. It’s honestly the only diet plan, aside from Meridia (expensive doctor-prescribed diet pills), that’s ever worked for me. I just followed the guidelines. I stayed away from “funky” foods, ate fruit alone, and was careful not to combine carbs and proteins. And I worked out on a treadmill. I don’t blame Suzanne or Somercizing for the fact I gained my weight back, because I know I did not follow the plan through to the end. She specifically states that in the higher levels of Somercizing, you can do more protein/carb combining. I never got that far, and I only have myself to blame. I was looking for a quick fix to lose weight fast for a summer trip… and succeeded! Had I had the sense to stick with it, who knows how much I could’ve lost? I’m back online trying to re-educate myself on Somercizing, because I think I’m going to go back to it. There is no reason not to, since I’ve gotten good results before.

Maria Jose: Somersize has been the solution to my blood sugar level. During my second pregnancy, I had Gestational Diabetes and all the knowledge I had acquired with the 3 Somersize books surprised both my Nutritionist and my Doctor. It takes me at least a month to start losing fat so I have to wait until the melting suddenly happens. This is the only diet that I am not hungry all the time because it levels my hormones, specially during PMS. You just need to be creative and eat all that it is permitted. The first time I followed this diet, I lost 15 pounds. I’ve been on this diet for a month and I’ve lost 10 already, and I hope to lose another 10 in the next few months. The liposuction issue is totally irrelevant here. The diet works.

Beth: I did the Somersize program 7 years ago. I lost 32 pounds in 10 weeks. I kept it off for three years. The only reason I gained weight and haven’t lost any is that I lack the self-discipline to get on the Somersize diet. I was satisfied, rarely hungry following the program.

Elle: I started Somersizing after my daughter went from a size 13 to a size 3 in a few months on the diet. She lives with me so I knew that she was not eating potatoes or sandwiches. I thought I could not give those up long term. She kept telling me I should try the diet to improve my blood sugar control. I agreed to read the book and found to my surprise that it didn’t talk about dieting or losing weight, it talked about blood sugar control. My blood sugar control improved so much in the first 2 weeks that I dropped over 40 units of insulin a day. The carb cravings I have lived with all my life are a thing of the past. I have not been weighing myself regularly but have dropped two clothing sizes since June 1st. I eat out all the time, almost every day for lunch and almost every night for dinner. I substitute salad or vegetables for the potatoes and have rarely been in a restaurant where I didn’t have plenty of protein choices. There are no good carb choices in restaurants but there are always protein choices. We don’t buy any of the products either. My daughter makes some deserts at home using sugar free syrups or using sugar substitutes. I have “cheated” a little bit and found that I have lost the taste for most of the foods I used to love, including potatoes. Once you reach your goal weight, you can add some of these foods back in moderation. A hamburger on a bun with a big plate of french fries? No. But a cheeseburger salad with a few fries would be fine and probably very satisfying. This is probably not for everyone, but I think more diabetics might want to give this diet a try.

Suzie: I am not sure why everyone seems to be having so much trouble with Somersize. It sometimes takes a little bit of time to start losing weight but it will happen. I did the program for almost a year and I lost over 30 pounds and I never felt hungry. You don’t have to eat her foods, you can eat what you like as long as you combine correctly. The only product I purchase on a regular basis is the SomerSweet because I like it. On the program I never had to worry about calories or portion size so I never got hungry. I am actually starting the program back again this week because I got away from it for a while and have put some of my weight back on. I don’t want to do that so starting again. I would never use chemicals to help me lose weight so I am doing the program. Oh, yeah you do have to do some exercise but it can something as simple as walking everyday.

Carrie: I really want to Somersize cause I think suzanne Somers has a great attitude about aging weight and health. I would love to look like her and adopt more positive views into my own day.

Having Weight Watchers meals on hand, might just make life easier, for now at least. Still might read up on this more just to better understand the whole concept, def interesting.

B.C. Comedy: From what I see, the SomerSIze diet plan might make cooking AND dieting more fun. A recipe book for cocktails, appetitzers and desserts, that’s my style. Though, maybe keeping a stash of hoodia bites on hand, is not a bad idea, just so i don’t, overdo it.
