CrystalB: well, I'm thinking so far that the Atkins Diet makes good sense and I'm doing pretty well. But my concern is it has been only 2 weeks and already i've started to crave carbs big time. what you you guys do to get over that hump? I really don't want to fail on another diet, i think this can help me if i stay strong!!! Any advice would be great.

Madeline: I can't say anything negative about Atkins - I have been on the program for over two years and managed to lose about 30 pounds. I will say though that as I am approaching 50 this year I notice my progress has plateaued and I expect it is the result of a slowing metabolism. I think I will continue many of the dietary practices I have learned and incorporate an herbal supplement to get things up and running quickly again.

Becky: I love Atkins....I guess I never realized how good i could feel if i stopped overloading my body with white flour and refined sugars. I feel like somebody who has found a new religion, i want to tell everybody about it!

Julia: When Atkins was the hottest thing several years ago, I really had a lot of skepticism towards the diet. I'd look at my friends eating lots of cheese and red meat and think, that is not healthy at all. bUT, I am a carb lover and can attribute my big booty to all the bagels and white bread I consume, I have no doubt. So I just began on Atkins, I read more about it and think it might be the rihgt way to go. The people I know DID lose wiehgt but I don't think they all kept it off. Sherine: Atkins diet is really working so far for me, I have lost 2 pounds already and it has only be 2 weeks. I do agree that the craving for carbs is starting to heat me big time and really hope i can stay strong because I am seeing results.

Gwen: Hmm, well, I've lost 4 lbs on Atkins but I also find myself wanting to devour an entire pizza in one sitting. So, this is a problem. i see some comments about supplements, how about an appetite suppressant? Anybody know a good one?

Mitzi: Atkins works really well for weihgt loss, I lost a bunch of weight right away, I couldn't believe it. But yeah, I think its common to reach a plateau at a certain point, I ended up taking a fat burner about 7 or 8 monhts into the diet, because I wasn't able to lose any more. It makes a big difference, just gives me that extra help for getting the weight down.

Jacey: I swear to God, if anybody even mentions bacon to me, or anything else that's fat and meaty, I'm going to throw up. I lost 5 pounds really fast, but I just can't do this diet another minute. I have GOT to have some bread and some lettuce and maybe an artichoke. The thought makes me drool! So this works, no doubt, but I can't stay with it...too limited, by far.

laurie: Yeah I hear you, I have done the Atkins diet and at the time it did work but I ended up gaining all the weigh back and more, I am only human and I don't thing this diet plan has been design for people like me.

Kate: I never in a million years thought I could commit to a low carb lifestyle. I used to love bread and pizza so much. But what I have discovered is that I love being skinny more than anything. I do take an appetite suppressant when I am going out to dinner just as insurance, but other than that I am doing it totally on my own!

madelyn: I'm having a great time on Atkins, actually, since I love meat and cheese and nuts.Its very liberating to be able to eat these foods witout guilt. But I'm worried that maybe I'm overeating these items just a tad. Is this maybe why my progress has been slow? the thing is i have really laid off the carbs!

Ulyssa: Didn't Dr. Atkins die of sort of a meat-sclorosis? Or some such? I mean, best intent in the world, but the man died of super clogged arteries, and I can see why after trying this for a week. It definitely works for losing weight in a double quick hurry, but I feel so bloggy and soggy and generally gross. It's not something I can stick with, and plus I don't want to just have an occasional glass of wine...who's kidding who, here?

Tyler: For me, I was a big fan of Atkins in the beginning. I was eating steak and eggs all the time, and still losing weight. I kept going on and off of Atkins for about 3 years, maybe I just wasn't consistent, but the weihgt would always come back. And I knew i could get it off fast. But it was sorta too much of a yo-yo, I've given up on it now, am looking for something more promising.

Gina: the idea of atkins is better than the reality. I can go for 4 maybe 5 days doing no carb. I never use their replacements or supplements, which I think are crap. I do my own combo of appetite suppressant and fat burner that I learned from my grandmother. I like to take bits and pieces of difference diets and use them to suit my needs. that works best for me.

gemini: Well, i can feel myself starting to fall off the wagon. It started with half a roll, then the other half, and it deteriorated steadily from there. I wish i could have done it, but I'm too weak.

Val: I happen to really love meat, could practically live on nothing but, so what a great thing to find a diet that agrees with me! I've all ready lost maybe 14 pounds in just a couple of weeks, and I've got tons of energy...must be all the protein and plus I work out a lot and the combination is really something! So of course I'm going to keep going with this until I lose another 10 pounds or so, and then I'll maybe have a baloney sandwich...that's what I've been missing the most...but it's definitely worth it!

Yadiral: I know this is working because I seem to be losing weight really fast, and the meat/fat/cheese thing was great for the first week or so, but now I'm really constipated and am not sure what to do about it...I can't be eating fruits and vegs just yet, so is it ok to take some fiber pills or something? I don't want to give up on this, but my stomach is definitely in rebellion mode...or my intestines, or something! Who's got a suggestion???

Linda Feretti: Well I'm feeling pretty optimistic about my Atkins plan, but I've done a lot of research to make sure this time, it's fail-proof. Based on what I am reading its very hard, transitioning to low carb, so you need a good supplement with an appetite suppressant to help you through. From everything i have seen it looks like Hoodia is the best. what i am wondering is, have any of you tried it? And what did you think?

Missy: What are you supposed to do when you just have to eat carbs - I mean if you're at someone's else and they serve rice you have to eat it or it would be rude, right? That's why I exercise my butt off for n hour every day and take a fat burner in addition to doing Atkins. It's the only way to make sure you lose all the weight without losing momentum.

Charlotte: In my life I tend to give up on things too easily, and though I had success with Atkins for awhile, after about 6 months or so, the weight wouldn't budge. But I knew this was a lifestyle, a commitment, not just a diet...so I didn't give up. I felt pretty good but wanted to lose about 20 more pounds. I don't think of it as cheating on the diet or anything, I still eat what I am supposed to, but this helps control the cravings and burn the fat faster. Helena: I was proceeding on the Atkins Plan and was on Phase 3 when I went on vacation. I was so proud of how I looked and the progress I had made that I completely went bananas and didn't think about calories or exercise at all for 10 days. Now I'm home and have gained at least 7 pounds back, which must be some kind of record. I don't want to spiral down and be fat again! What should I do? Should I take a supplement or go back on Atkins or what?! I'm totally bummed.

Peg: Well, for the constipation salad would probably be best....or anything high fiber. But barring that you could try Metamucil or a colon cleanse. I had the same issue w/Atkins for a while, til i was able to have more balance with the vegetables. I wish this diet had a solution for that, because a lot of us women struggle with constipation as we get older.

Doreen: The Atkins Diet is really not suitable for vegetarians. By the time I decided to try this, I was no longer vegan (or it wouldn't have been an option at all) but I still ate a mainly vegetarian diet. I knew I had too many carbs and had gained 12 lbs in one year. I thought maybe I could forgo my veggies and lose some weight but by the 3rd week, I was disgusted with myself. I just need more fresh fruit & veggies in my diet, and as long as I eat whole grains, I don't have a problem wit the carbs as much. NOt for me.

Angelica: Atkins makes it simple to decide what to eat. On other diets I could never get the portions right and would make excuses to eat my offenders and my diet would fail. I like how simple and straightforward it is. Other women can perhaps eat carbs in moderation, but not me. I go overboard with everything and eating is one of my favorite hobbies. Or it used to be. These days I am trying to think of food as fuel rather than fun and you know what? I like the way I look and feel so much more then ever!

Kristina: My feelings about Atkins are still mixed, even though I've been on it for 2 months now. I do really like the idea of getting rid of carbs, refined flours, high fructose corn syrups and saturated fats. However, I do wonder whether i am missing out on the balance of life. There ares some really healthy bread products that i can't imagine are that terrible for my body.I love bread and i miss it. I see other people enjoying healthy bread and pastas without being fat. Plus, I read recently that high protein diets like this increases risk of heart disease. this was the National heart Association who said this, so that does worry me. i just feel like, I need a bit of help staying on this. I am worried that i will start binging, or that I might ultimately not be helping myself with this. can anyone give me some good adivce?

Blair: I don't have time for haters or for BS diets that don't work. Atkins is smart because it gives limitations. Obviosly we eat to much food in America and so eating less breads is a better idea. Meat is what animals eat and they are't never to fat.

Jodi: Well, okay so a few years ago, my weight had ballooned to a very unhealthy 187, I had been under a lot of stress and had not been taking care of myself. New job, 2 kids, no time to cook. I was eating out a lot and never exercising. I;m 5'3'' so you can imagine what I looked like. Not pretty. Anyway everywhere I went, it was Atkins this and Atkins that, I couldn't get away from it. Finally I decided to give it a try. In the first month I lost 10 lbs, then 8 more the second. It was a start, a good start. I began taking more tiem to prepare my meals and go on walks, and felt really good. In the third month I lost another 6 lbs. I can't believe how eeasy it was to get the weight off, once I set my mind to it. Now, I do sometimes use supplements too (all natural of course) but the diet itself just makes it easy to lose weight and keep it off. I only wish I would've started on this sooner, no wonder so many people love it, it works.

carmen: In my experience Atkins diet have been just fantastic. I have been following the steps really well and saw amazing result, I am gonna sound like a freaking commercial but I went form a size 12 to 8 and I keep loosing. I just keep a strong mind and get a little help from supplement diet pills and I am happy girl!

Rita: I'm actually sold on Dr. Atkins, and I think he was a man before his time and finally people are paying attention to what he had to say. I was SO overweight, and was thinking the old stomach stapling solution, but I was not QUITE eligible for my insurance to pay for it, so had to find another way to get rid of the bulges and overlaps on my own. I mean, I didn't want to end up like one of those people whose family has to clean them with washcloths on a stick to get between the fat rolls, how could anyone stand to do that? Is that love or addiction? Not for me, thank you no matter which thing you choose. I started Atkins about a year ago, the weight came off pretty quickly, considering, and now I'm in the phase that's balanced, and I haven't gained any of it back, which I consider quite the miracle. My family is proud of me, I'm proud of me, and there are no gross cleansing rituals in any of our futures. Thanks to Dr. Atkins, close to sainthood in my book.

Corinne: Sorry, but I couldn't hang in there with this. I think there's probably some validity to the low carb concept, but i just didn't have the will power. There are certain foods i just can't' give up. Plus, my progress was too slow on Atkins.

Julie Fisher: I was starting to feel sort of ill from all the meat, too. TOo much of anything is probably not the best idea. I was as constipated as could be, and that worried me. It seemed to be a sign from my body that things were not running smoothly. i have colon cancer in my family so that scared me.

Sheralyn: My cholesterol went up after 4 months on Atkins, I guess the 14 lbs I'd lost didn't mean I was any fitter. The weight came back as soon as I stopped the diet, so now I'm gonna see if I can just find a diet pill to get my weight back down. I liked being able to eat real, filling food on this, just wish it was longer lasting.

Uma: You know what I discovered? I can do Atkins if I drink like GALLONS of water along with it! I'm not so sure that's such a great mental picture...all that meat sloshing around with a sea of stomach water, but hey, it's taking the curse off this for me. So as long as I can keep glugging down pitchers of water when I eat, then I'm going to stay with this. I wonder why nobody else has thought of this? Do you think it might be a bad thing to do? Micki: OK so I only just begun the book and looking more into the Atkins Diet; is it meant to be followed for life? I wanna lose wiehgt but I don;t know if I can give up my carbs forever, you are still allowed to eat some at some point, right??

Gia: Really, Atkins changed my life. It is not an easy diet to follow, especially in the beginning, but it works. Like with anything else, you gotta check with your doctor if you have health concerns, but this is a treid & true diet plan.

Ann: My husband and I didn't want to be flabby at fifty so we started Atkins last Summer. Lost 20lb easily (more quickly for him) in a few months and now weigh what we weighed in our (slim) early 20s. Have kept to a wonderful, varied low carb diet since and the weight has not gone back on. My husband was a carb craver but even he has found the diet satisfying enough to keep to. Do the exercise as well and the rewards are fantastic!

alexis: This diet is full of fat and very low on fiber!!! People should always avoid sugar, but should not cut out all carbs!!

Debbie: The Atkin's diet is really effective. For me the hardest part was eating so radically different from most of the people I know, who eat far more breads, pasta and sweets than is good for them. The concept of low fat being the way to go just doesn't make sense when you realize the way the chemistry of our bodies work when we limit our carbs and eat only good for you protein and fats and exceptionally good for you vegetables. I for one would recommend the diet to anyone but always with the suggestion that they read alot first to really understand what will be happening to their bodies and the way they will feel, especially the first few weeks.

Marcy: Although I will agree that reading up on Atkins before beginning the diet is super important, I am no longer a proponent of it. I knew what I was getting into & also knew people who'd been successful with it. I first began it about 4 years ago, however and lost only 10 lbs, kept it off for about a year. Never lost more though. Then the weight started to creep back and my cholesterol levels spiked. I still watch my carbs and sugar intake, but for weight loss and health, Atkins will ruin you! NOT a good diet!!!

amelie: I went on the Atkin's diet a few years ago and lost a lot of weight. I have since gone back on it and found that i can't lose any weight on it. Has anyone else experienced this?

Maureen: The meat eating & cheese Great!! So having started and got my Ketostix. Lost loads in the 1st 4 days (obviously water) then nothing, and no fat burning confirmed on the stix. Referring to the book followed Atkins instrs for possible Hypothyroidism. Doctor confirmed a problem and has started me on Thyroxine. Can anyone advise when would be a good time to re-commence the diet. As I can't wait now to see great results. Amelie this could well be your problem too. I had never had a problem dieting before, just kept putting it on again.

YOu lost water weight, stopped losing it... found out you have a thyroid problem, and now you want to go back to Atkins because...why, again? I just dont understand what was so good about losing *temporary* weight and no real weight. Heres a second opinion on Atkins Diet from sensational.com/diet. I personally am going nowhere with Atkins..yeah, i like the meat and cheese too, but I'm just not losing the weight. Plus, i am dreaming of carbs. :(

Maureen: To Lauren, Having re read my comment I see what you mean. I loved the diet, the meat eating and cheese and was never hungry. As I didn't lose the weight. I looked for a problem, which was the thyroid. So Lauren, I do believe this diet will work. Reading the other comments I am even more convinced it will. I was not suggesting Atkins gave me a thyroid problem. On the contrary, Atkins helped me to discover I had a problem. When sorted I will definately try Atkins again.

Belle: The Atkins diet encourages you to eat natural, whole foods and gets you off of processed foods, sugar and white flour. It is healthful way of life. After two weeks of induction, you gradually add in fruits and some starches to the level that your particular body can assimilate and still lose weight. It lowers triglycerides and does not raise cholesterol. It is well studied and highly recommended.

Robert: I was on atkins diet for a year, It works great I lost 170 pounds that year. But now I'm trying to put on some muscle, but without carbohydrate it's almost impossible to lift a substantial amount of weight. So I change my diet, one that includes lots o carbs and protein and low in fat and lifting hard at gym. I seems to work, I gain some weight, back most of it muscle. I am happy with it. In conclusion if you have more than 50 pounds to lose, go for it. It's very effective, but when you are almost reaching your ideal weight. Just go to a more traditional approach.

Shannon: I struggled through the Induction phase of Atkins, lowering my intake until i went into ketosis (which i later learned is not healthy for the metabolism)...i was tired and craving carbs and starchy veggies all the time. My breath was metallic and disgusting all the time i had to carry Altoids around all day and brush my teeth at work. When I finally reached the OWL phase of Atkins, i felt pretty awful...i was relieved to be able to add more carbs and some fruits starchy vegies to my induction-acceptable veggies. But unfortunately, at this point my body went haywire, and istarted gaining the weight back. it was supposed to still be a time of weight loss, but i guess just the increased calories did it...i think i had lowered my metabolism so much during ketosis that even a slight caloric increase caused my body to be desperate to store the calories as fat. It was awful awful awful, and the lack of carbs certianly made me weak and increased my cravings. Let me just say this diet is too severe, and i think its extremely unrealilstic and unhealthy. i recently transitioned into South Beach, which is much nicer and more user-friendly, and I'm doing much MUCH better.

kelly: Apparently Atkins filed for Ch 11 bankruptcy back in 2006...i wonder, with this economy, if this is even a smart diet to invest my time and money in...

laura: Atkins was simply too strict and too slow-going for me. I feel like a diet should be one or the other: slow OR strict. You know?Not both. I feel like the slow-going diet should be a bit more moderate and lenient, and so it takes longer. But for a diet as strict as this one, i thought the weight would come flying off..but you know what, it didn't.

Julia: Great diet, I am loosing the weight a bit slower than anticipated but at least I am loosing so I am pleased. I just need to start strong and forget about pasta (which I love) for awhile.

Josh: Too Slow, too dangerous and just not balanced enough for me. I am not sure who the Atkin diet is working for but it definately didn't work for me. I just stopped today and after doing it for 5 weeks and really don;t recommend it.

renee: I stuck to Atkins very strictly but all i thought about where carbs, and soon i was cheating and sneaking carbs, until eventually i had to admit i had fallen off the wagon. I just don't think this is a very realistic diet for anyone who likes food.

Marni: Atkins has its merits, for sure. I have been able to sustain the low carb thing for certain periods, for me it's easier in summer and when I am taking hoodia, but during the holidays and all winter I have to have bread and pasta to keep me warm and contented. I think it brought a lot of attention to how much we overconsume white foods but it is not entirely a realistic way to live and be happy all the time. For me it is an only when extremely necessary to be my very slimmest do I use it thse days.

deb: I think that Atkins Diet is a good plan but you really have to have discipline and determination. I found that the induction phase is definitely the hardest, since theres only 20 net carbs alowed per day and it lasts 2 weeks. But if you can get thru that nit does get easier. You just have to be willing to work.

Amanda: I have been on phase one for now 4 days and are already feeling much lighter, I have not used a scale yet (i will do it every 7 days) but I can tell I am already loosing weight. I am not sure how long I will be able to last on greens and fish though, I don't eat meats. Does anyone have any amazing recipes they can share for phase one? Thanks.

Lo: I just cannot do it. Call me lazy and say I have no willpower but I love sandwiches and fruit. I could not live on the Atkins Diet for more than one day. I'll try anything else but this again.

Adison: I feel so bad, I just HAD to have a baked potato! I only was on Atkins for a week, and I guess that's not very long, I'd lost two pounds but I was so hungry, and I kept seeing that baked potato in my dreams, so....I ate two for breakfast this morning! Isn't that just so goofy, but I couldn't help myself, sour cream, butter, the potato? OMG, nothing ever tasted so good in my entire life! So it's plain to me I have to find something that's more balanced, maybe South Beach, and I think an appetite suppressant too, I have to create a way that isn't so strict I don't have the mental power to do it.

nora: Induction is tough....does anybody feel like they are having some major problems with food cravings? Its especially hard when i see my husband and kids eating things like pancakes and fries and pizza....i wish they would be more considerate of my diet, but they get hungry too, i guess. Anyway. Does anyone have some tips for getting through this first phase of the Atkins Diet (without killing your happiness)? :) Thanks!

g. wendell: the weight came off with Atkins Diet, lost about 19 lbs over the course of a year or so. didn't mind the foods or nothing, problem was, my cholesterol levels skyrocketed on this. had to stop and since then, i regained more than 10 lbs. if someone has suggestion so i can make it work and not increase cholesterol, please tell. or another good way to lose weight would be appreciate as well.

Heloise: I think Atkins is great if you like meat, but I don't know, it must be my age or something, but red meat just about makes me gag, so I don't think this diet is going to work for me, I'd much rather eat apples and raisins.

Claire: I drink a lot of water and it really helps when I am hungry, at a gallon a day. The Atkins diet is what I believe to be the perfect diet for me.

Honor: I am going to give atkins diet a tentative thumbs up. I do think you have to be careful when you reintegrate carbohydrates or else you blow up like a college freshman but if you are mindful this can be a successful diet. I mean, I do feel like I have mroe energy when I cut out white bread and sugar. It's working for the moment and I am pretty okay with how I look.

Eleanor: Atkins Diet is not the diet that is most appropriate for my body. I think every individual is different and needs different things from a diet which is why it is so hard to to find the right one, there are no blanket good for everyone diets in my opinion. I tried Atkins a number of times and I just cannot do it, don't like it, didn't have the results I expected. But if it works for you more power to you!

Harriet: OMG, all this carb talk! I'm only on day 5 of the Induction part of atkins diet, and I'm STARVING for bread, pasta, a potato, ANYTHING! I like thinking that it will get better if I can just through this first two weeks, but I don't know if I can...do you think an appetite suppressant would help at this point, or is it my body just crying out for what it needs? And shouldn't I listen?

Sharon Lamont: This diet (AtKins) made me real real tired. I just had ZERO energy to go outdoors and do anything that required raising my heart beat. Sorry to say I didn't last 6 weeks on this plan, and in fact, I gained 3 lbs. I know its probably from the lack of physical ativity but I just could NOT do it. Did not realize how worn down i felt on this diet, I think maybe I need to find one now that includes a more specific activity plan and is not so focused on foods. I dunno, all i know is I am up to 226 and its not acceptable.

Bobbsie: Tried the atkins diet but couldn't do it, I dunno, I guess it was watching people eat desserts that did me in, I travel a lot, and I just couldn't stand not being able to eat things like Tiramisu after a business dinner, I gave in, and that was that, the 4 pounds I'd lost in 2 weeks came back almost INSTANTLY!

Katarina: I hate that I have to complain about the fact that I am not loosing weight fast enough but it is a fact. The Atkins diet is the only diet I have even had success with, meaning I am loosing weight. But it is also the hardest diet I have ever done and feel like I should be loosing way more considering I can't eat. I still think it's good plan though.

Jessica: I'm going to jillian micheals after 3 weeks on the atkins diet, I actually made it through the induction part, but as soon as I added like a piece of bread, I couldn't stop with the carbs, and so I think this takes a lot more strength to do than people know I'm happier having my meals all done and they're slow to get the weight off, but Atkins was no roaring ball of fire in that direction, either, and I feel way healthier losing weight this way. Balance is everything.

Joni: When you think about it, weren't we BORN to be carnivores? Our bodies are not designed to process al the refined flours and sugars, we were made to eat from the EARth. So I think Atkins diet makes a whole lotta sense, esp once you get to maintenance phase. IT really is more balaned at that stage, I think most people only know about the Induction phase. Read the book before you start the diet and you see how much sense it makes! I am one year on and feeling great.

Fred: True I felt tired as well on the atkins diet, phase one in particular. I was not able to go to the gym during that phase which I usually go 4 times a week. I lost a few pounds but I had to stop following it as overall the weight lost was not dramatic enough. When I first read the book it made complete sense and I still think it does, but for people like me who have a really big amount of weight to loose it just was not working.

casey: I think Atkins Diet is probably a perfectly fine diet if followed correctly, but the thing is i just dont have the willpower for it. I like to eat and i like carbs and every time i have attempted Atkins i have failed. I dont blame the diet i blame myself, but i dont think i will try it again. Good lucck to everyone.

NancyLudlum: With the atkins diet all I wanted was corn flakes! And I don't even like cereal! Just goes to show you what happens to your body with this wacky diet...it's like being pregnant, I got so obsessive about food I could hardly stand it, finally I gave in and bought a box of Frosted Flakes, ate the whole thing at one sitting. This is not a healthy way to go!

Clara: Atkins is the ONLY diet that works for me. Atkins Diet is restrictive but that is what I NEED. it is a diet after all. I spent many year indulging myself eating all the cake and pizza I desired and now it's time to pay the piper. I like feeling restricted and I love losing weight. It feels very very empowrring.

ErinB: I can't afford the Atkins diet, all I can afford is mac and cheese, and not even the good stuff, the kind in the box with the powdrd yellow fluff, and who can even get hamburger, bun or no bun? Maybe if I get some more money coming in, this would be something for me to try, but not right now.

Bella: NONONONO! Atkins Diet is terrible. It started off as an ok concept but now they are all about the cra
