HoodiaP57 - Pure 20X Strength Certified Hoodia
This product is simply as good as Hoodia gets. It is 100% certified, pure Hoodia from South Africa. It also boasts 20X the strength. If any Hoodia product is going to suppress appetite, this is the one. We also like that HoodiaP57 contains nothing else except pure Hoodia -- no fillers and no stimulants. This means it is safe to take whenever you want – including close to bed time. There are hundreds of Hoodia products on the market now, but we don’t even bother to list them on this site, because 99% of them are just cheap imitation Hoodia that is not even from South Africa, where the P57 molecule is the most effective. We chose HoodiaP57 to be on DietBlogTalk because it is of the utmost quality. The maker even includes a certificate of origin from the South African government stating the Hoodia originates from there. This product has nearly a perfect ‘Thumbs Up’ score. Check this one out. MiracleBurn®
Miracleburn® is a pretty amazing phenomenon. It has consistently received one of the highest ‘Thumbs Up’ blog ratings on our site. The really amazing part is that most of their customers come from word of mouth, and it is quickly becoming one of the most popular diet products available. The maker of Miracleburn® doesn’t spend tens of millions on advertising like alli®, Hydroxycut® or Curvelle to hype their product. They simply let their satisfied customers virtually do the marketing for them. We suggest reading through the postings. The formula consists of a quality form of Hoodia, combined with the patented metabolism booster, Advantra-Z®. It also has several other balancing secondary ingredients. Part of what makes their product such an effective crowd-pleaser is the manufacturing technique and perfect balance of ingredients. Read a full MiracleBurn Review Here.

Many people turn to the Bible and scripture for spiritual guidance and everyday support. Jordan Rubin, the author of The Maker’s Diet, also found inspiration for his weight loss and wellness plan. This program cuts out processed foods and encourages dieters to partake in a whole food lifestyle. There are three two-week phases, which is enough time to generate weight loss, but not overwhelm the diet. Rubin offers sound nutritional advice that focuses on cleansing the body and overall health. However, the diet also offers advice in other areas of life, such as hygiene, and advises dieters to thoroughly cleanse the face, hands and neck in the morning and evenings. Kim: The South Beach Diet has become one of the most proven and effective diets out there. So when I decided it was time to drop those 20 lbs, I knew I wanted to try something I knew was a quality program. And it has not let me down. By following this diet (and still eating good food), I have lost 13 of those pounds so far. And i feel really good too. Def worth checking out.

Betty: In my opinon the South Beach Diet isn't just another fad diet. Its a lot healthier than other diet plans, and being on it has taught me the difference between "good" carbs and bad carbs, and I'll continue to avoid those "bad carbs" as much as possible for the rest of my life.

Ken: My doc told me that I was pre-diabetic & if I didn't lose weight I would most likely develop type 2 diabetes. That was a wake-up call for me. I'd heard a lot of good things about the South Beach Diet, and so I went for it. It's been 3 months now, and I feel great and have lost more than half of my weight. I'm glad I had that little scare, it ended up being the best thing for me.

Laura: The South Beach Diet recipes are fabulous!! I love this diet the online program is the best. http://southbeachdiet.com/specialoffer

Erin: Getting through those first two weeks was the toughest part about South Beach Diet, but I did it, and was able to lose about 7 lbs during that first phase. Since then, meals have not been so difficult and I've continued to lose the weight.

danita K.: I like the way the South Beach Diet helps your body to phase out cravings for sugars and refined starches, which are my two biggest weaknesses! Once I got past that, I knew I was headed for success. I have lost 17 lbs and counting.

Shauna: Is there a South Beach Diet plan for vegetarians?

profdiane@yahoo.com: Cooking was never really my thing, so I was always gravitating toward quick meals that required very little work, for years. I knew it probably wasn't the best thing for me, but didn't think too much about the implications until I started reading more about the dangers of processed foods. The South Beach Diet has caused me to rethink my eating habits and I'm even starting to cook now. It's not so tough.

talulah: is it okay to use a diet pill while on the south beach diet?

mariel: Right now I am on phase 3 of the south beach diet, which is "maintaining for life." I like that this diet teaches you how to stay thin for LIFE. I want to keep looking this good, I have had enough of yoyos.

JR: The meal planner has been very helpful to me while on South Beach Diet, I can plan my meals for the week without too much trouble, it makes it easier to stick to the diet.

laura: i couldn't get through the first phase i like my carbs too much and i tried to start it right before the holidays. i might try again in the spring, when i have fewer temptations around.

Maxine: Sometimes I still get cravings, and I want to maintain the weight I lost on South Beach. I take Hoodia Bites http://www.hoodiabites.com/nosugar and I eat one whenever I feel a little hungry between meals.

Joelle: I really need to lose quite a bit of weight, but i definitely want to do it right. Based on everything I've heard, the South Beach Diet sounds ideal for me. I am going to give it a try.

Barb: How much are you supposed to exercise while on South Beach? I assume that's a part of the weight loss plan??

Kellie: Thats cool somebody mentioned Hoodia Bites, I LOVE those things. They really help me to resist the urge to snack. No more gummy bears for me. :)

johnson1029@aol.com: Well I was gung-ho about Atkins, and it didn't work for me, plus it was a difficult diet for me to follow. I'm not so sure I'm ready to follow another restrictive diet any time soon. I know it seems to work well for some.

Marguerite: I can't cook, but I've also seen South Beach Diet meals at my grocery store. Is it OK to just eat those, instead of cooking?

Opal: Since I eat out a lot (b/c I travel for work) I like having the food guides so that I know what I can eat. I think it's helped me keep the weight off.

Janice: Somebody asked whether you can take diet pills and do South Beach Diet. I can only speak for myself, but I do this combination (i take Miracleburn) and it's working just fine for me.

Bob: Their saying that the South Beach Diet helps you make a shoping list for the grocrey store, i dont understnad how it can do that, they dont no what foods are avaleable at my grocrey store, do they? so how can they make up youre grocrey list for you if they never been in teh store?

Yvonne: I totally agree about South Beach Diet's "dining out" guide...I'm the kind of person who does great on a diet at home, when i've got everything under control, but when i get to a restaurant, it's all shot to hell. That guide has really made a big difference in helping me take control, even when I'm out.

Fred: I CAN'T STICK TO DIETS I GET TOO MANY CRAVINGS AND DONT LIKE TO BE TOLD WHAT TO EAT BEACUSE I LIKE TO EAT WHATEVER I WANT TO I DONT CARE

Amy: South Beach Diet is an excellent diet, its comprehensive and motivating and really structured. I feel like it's got me covered, in every area. I have used the online plan since December.

Tessa: Yes, South Beach Diet is tons better than Atkins!! It's so much more practical and easy to follow. Atkins was way to severe. I feel like South Beach is something i can really stay with without difficulty.

Lady_Madonna48: Some of you mention that this is difficult to begin, but I actually found South Beach to be pretty easy to stick to. Just because certain foods aren't allowed does not mean that you can't eat complete meals. I felt quite satisfied right from the start, and have lost 28 lbs over the past 3 months. The online guidance helped me stay focused.

Crystal: Omega 3 is like a healthy fat rihgt? i think I could take something like that while on the South Beach Diet, it could help the process along.

Kay: Thank you South Beach, in less than two months I've already lost 30 pounds and feel great. Love the meals, delicious. And I've learned to eat the right kinds of food.

sharon: Can anyone direct me to a South Beach "Questions" site? The book states that the maltodextrins in beer have higher glycemic indices than found in table sugar. Yet Splenda and just about anything that's sugar-free has tons of maltodextrins. This doesn't make sense to me..... HELP!

Sheri: I had the same questions and found most of my answers here http://southbeachdiet.com/faq

Shane: I did the south beach and it worked lost 23 lbs thanks.

peper_45: Does anyone know where to buy the South beach food, my grocery is not very fancy,

John: THIS IS THE ONLY DIET THAT WORKS, BECAUSE IT WAS MADE BY A DOCTOR. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Wesson: I have found the best reviews on this site. I also have tried the South beach diet and love it, phase one is a bit tough, but you can get thru it I did.

Chris: Does any one have any failure stories on this diet, eveyone I have talked to has loved it.

Lindsey: Can you take diet pills and do the sough beach at the same time?

Sarah: Sorry Chris, I don;t have a failure story to tell, just more success! Lost 27 lbs with the South Beach Diet, no complaints here!!!

melody: So many diet plans have failed me in the past, i really didn't expect much from the South Beach Diet. So many people were talking about it, and so I thought "oh it's just a fad, probably doesn't work." but that was like 4 years ago or something when i first heard about it. and people were STILL talking about it...so i had to try it, the weihgt wasn't going anywhere any other way. Lost 12 lbs right off the bat, and continued to lose 26 more!!

BART: Hey so I don't think it's a problem to take diet pills while on South Beach, but you don't necessarily need them eeither. Depends on what you're going for, how much you have to lose and all that. I'd say use something natural, though. I used Miracleburn while on So. Beach, worked well for me.

Shauna: SOuth Beach, baby, that's where its at!!

hillman: Saw al these positive posts here and had to try the South Beach diet for myself. I'm here to report that it DID work for me as well, lost 19 lbs so far, still have a bout 10 more to go, very happy with it, thank you.

ramirez: I'm considering trying the South Beach Diet for the first time. I took a look at the list of foods you are allowed to eat and the foods you should avoid and I'm okay with most of it except that I'm allergic to eggs and am wondering what else I could have for breakfast. No cereal, no bread, no crackers, no starch at all. Can someone give me some ideas?

Carol: Hello, I am not allergic to eggs, I JUST HATE THE TASTE OF EGGS. However, I love love love the South beach diet. I don't really think its fair to call it a diet as it is a smart lifestyle change. For phase 1, I went with another lean sourcesof protein, canned chicken or tuna mostly. If you dont like those any type of lean meat will do I think. Good luck!

tyler stephens: hey hoe.(kendra)

Hope: I love the south beach diet!!! It is AMAZING! :)

rita: i have been on this diet for 7 days and have not lost a pound. help

christine: My husband and I have been on the South Beach Diet since January 1996 to date he has lost 116 lbs and I have lost just over 70lbs. We have managed to keep the weight off and love the flexibility the diet offers. I recommend this life changing diet to everyone!!

Angel: My husband and I began in Jan. 08. I have a long family history of heart problems and diabetes. This was a simple choice I can lose weight and become healthlier without cravinganything. I recommend this life-style to everyone.

nan: I lost the weight and have kept it off for nearly 5 years, but recently gained nearly 20 pounds. I went back on the South Beach diet today, and plan on staying on it until the 20 pounds are gone No diet is e.a.s.y. - but nothing worthwhile is ever easy - Try it!

Donna: I have a very busy schedule and hate to cook when I get home at night because that makes my dinner so late. Can anyone tell me if we can eat South Beach Diet frozen dinners after the second week?

Sheri: I love the South Beach diet. I have lost about 30 pounds but have bottomed out. I need some advice about how to lose that last 5 or 10 pounds.

Justin: I hope I don't sound like a commercial, but NUPHEDrine is wonderful. Little blue different...haha. Anyway, I am a southbeacher have been many years, and will be for life, if you know what i mean? Anyway, i also work out and still had a bit of a tire around my waist. Nuphedrine is the only fat burner I have tried that gave me energy and helped me past my plateau feeling good.

Polly: Does everyone really loose around 10 lbs during the first 2 weeks?

Diana: SHeri, go back to phase one for to weeks

Abby: I lost 9lbs my first 2 weeks, I would say thats pretty good. South beach is for people who are tired of dieting and ready to change their lives. I still do it and love it. Thanks!

Anonymous: Rita, I too have been on the diet for a week now and have not lost any weight. I am hoping that week 2 will show some results. I am a women in my 50's, and I have a feeling this is my problem. Any suggestions, please let me know.

JoAnne: Hello everyone, stick with it is all I have to say. I stopped weighing myself and started to measure instead with south beach. :) I would say for all those new to it, most see results around the 2 week mark. I mean it takes a few weeks for you body to adjust to the new food you are giving it, while getting rid of the bad stuff. Measure your tummy weekly and watch it shrink over the weeks, its absolutely amazing to see it happen. You may not think you are loosing, but the measurements dont lie. Like I say stick with it, I am with South beach for life now.

BIGBIRD: Is it okay to eat the south beach peanut butter bars for snack during the first two weeks?

Kathleen: The first two weeks didn't go quite as planned for me on South Beach, but I stuck with it and was able to lose 23 lbs the first month. And I kept it off for awhile. Everyone is different. I recently gained back 7 lbs but if I go back on this, I know I will lose it again in no time. That's the great thing about South Beach Deit, you really can do it for life. Hopefully I won' t stray this time around.

shantelle: I am on day 3 of Phase 1 and I am so miserable. I feel like Im turning into a rabbit I hope i can see some results really soon so i know its all worth it

BIGBIRD: Hang in there Shantelle I am on day three also of phase one. Its not that bad when you are on a mission. I will pray for you. You can do it!

Darcy: Yes hang in there!!! Both of you, its worth it!! It took me awhile to get over the cravings and everything but after a few days, maybe a week, I didn't even think about it. The first part really is the hardest, but once I got through I was happy I did. Those 13 lbs will never come back, and I'm still losing more.

BIGBIRD: Thanks for the motivation. I failed yesterday, I had a small amount of soda and five french fries. But I got back up and continued the program. I read these comments everyday and the commemts people make are very encouragen. It feels good to know other people are have weight issues and I am not in it by myself. How are your doing Shantelle?

janie: Whatever anyone says, this is NOT easy!! But I'm sticking it out too, bcs I know a lot of people lose weight with South Beach. Nobody's perfect, we can't completely say no to everything (that's what I keep telling myself at least) but if you're limiting your indulgences to a few french fries and a little soda, i say that's pretty darn good! Good luck with the rest of it, I'll be right here with you.

Pez: I am thinking of starting the South Beach Diet on my doctor's suggestion. I am a little concerned about all the Salmon. Is there a substitute fish I can use to replace this in the 1st two week of the program? I was thinking tuna but it does't seem to have the same Omega-3 fats .

Clara: The diet is going REALLY WELL for me so far, I got through my first two weeks and feel good about it. Lost 8 lbs, which is fine with me!! Can't wait to see how much I lose in the next few weeks, I know it will just get easier from here.

Kay: Update, since my last comment, I have lost 60 pounds since the middle of January..so easy doing the South Beach and learning to eat properly and in keeping my portions down, thanks so much. I feel great and all the clothes I can wear now...wow.

Nancy: My husband and I were on the southbeach diet before and did very well! He is a diabetic, and it helped to drop his sugar level way down. We got sidetracked, and got off from the diet, but we are going to start it again. I lost 35 pounds in about 2 and one half months! This diet is the very best!

essum: during phase one, can you switch a dinner for another? ie. day 2 dinner for day 1 dinner?

tinarae: I am on phase 3 now. On phase 1 you can absolutely mix the days dinners or lunches. Its all about variety, just follow the website.

betz: I love this 'diet'. A lot of people have commented on phase one being tough - I did the 'caggage soup' diet for one week before I came across this. Now this diet has been heaven to me; plus, I've made a deal with myself: I tell myself that if I mess this up then I'm going have to go back to the caggage. Great motivation! I have 19 pounds down, and 71 to go. I have tried many diets, and this is the first one that I know I can truly live with. I suggest you make it easy on yourself tho - pick a few of the recommended days & repeat them. Saves time & expense. Also, a note on expense: the first week I spent a lot at the store, and was concerned that I would not be able to keep it up because of the cost. However, I have found that my appetite has gone down drastically. Now the weekly cost is comparative to my high carb grocery shoping of the past - although I'm buying better & more expensive food items, I consume a lot less!

MLG: It is the most awesome way to diet..........

debbie: I have a friend who told me she was doing South Beach, so I asked her what she was eating that day and I joined her. I'm 2 days into it and I must say....I feel good, and this was after I felt like I hit bottom. So, I'm continuing on. Good luck to everyone who is on this healthy eating program, I'll be in touch.

TINA: ARE PINTO BEANS OKAY TO EAT IN PHASE 1? THE DIET IS GREAT.

Sally Rigg: South Beach is great! I love this new way of eating. I have learned how to eat the way god intended. It is healthy and I feel great. I have lost weight and still loosing. The web site is great and the people are very helpful, answering questions I have and if I need help. You will even make new friends. I have learned how and what to eat for a healthy life change. Buy the good fat good carb book small but mighty. It will tell you what to eat in each phase. I have had friend's that use my book to get started very ease to use. Have a great life and good luck please try it you will love it.

Eric: Day 3, Phase 1.....No problems so far. In fact I don't think I usually eat this well. I am satisfied the whole day and the food I'm eating tastes absolutely tremendous. That might be because I just quit smoking as well. But quitting smoking makes food cravings (if I've had any) seem small and insignificant by comparison. Don't think I'll have a problem with this diet.

Deb: I'm 47 and have been doing South Beach for 2 1/2 months. I've lost 20 lbs and 4 inches off my waist. I went from a size 12 to a size 8 or 6, so it does work even when you are 50ish. It's the easiest time I've ever had losing weight. But I didn't lose anything at all the first week, but then was down 8 lbs the 2nd week so don't get discouraged!

Sharon: I love this new way of eating. I never thought I could go without breads and pasta, but after 2 months I have lost 27 lbs. The South Beach dinners and pizza are awesome!! Thank you. It has changed my life. Hooray!!

Scout: This is my second go-round on the Beach. The first time, it took less than 6 months to reach my goal weight. It's been 2 yrs and I have gained back some, so I decided to give it another try. I've lost 4 lbs in as many days and am thrilled. In addition to my delight over losing the weight, I'm also proud of my willpower to just say no to the foods to avoid, especially in Phase 1. It's also boosted my energy level. I'm over 50 but look and feel 35! In my opinion the South Beach diet IS the way to go. You just need to hang in there and believe you CAN do it...and you WILL.

Brianna: I have only been on the diet for 6 days and have lost 7 pounds so far. The first two days were hard b/c I was experiencing withdrawals from carbs. I feel different now, better, and healthier. I am no stranger to diets...at the age of 24 I have been on a diet since 7. I am so tired of yo-yoing with my weight. I already hit the gym three times a week but I wasn't losing weight any more. Little did I know that what I thought was healthy wasn't... I have always been afraid to eat meat, cheese, or olive oil due to its fat... Thanks for your remarks- I have hope now.

meredith: I went on South Beach a few years ago. I felt sick for a couple of days>. I think it wasfrom the sugar detox. You really don't realize how much sugar and bad carbs you take in until you start taking a more careful look. The first two weeks I didn't lose a pound. It was a bit discouraging since everyone else was saying they lost at least a few by then. I stuck with it though. It's was easier than I thought and over the next ten months I lost 40 pounds.

Tiffany: I really like the south beach diet. I had lost 75 pounds total. I felt so good. However within 2 years i have gained 40 lbs back. today i started back again and i am going to do it. the first 2 weeks of phase one the first time i did the diet, i lost about 15 lbs the first 2 weeks. so anyone who does this diet it can be done.

Ruthy: I went on South Beach diet 5 days ago (6/5/08). I turned 40 this year and started to realize that my metabolism isn't the same and my body is changing so eating anything I wanted going to the gym wasn't working anymore. I chose this diet because I wanted to learn and understand how to eat better for life. I'm currently in Phase 1 and have lost 4.6 lbs so far. I do feel a little off at times, but once I get through this phase I'm sure I'll be fine. A small price to pay to get on the right road to healthy eating and living.

Joanne: Well, after having read all of your posts I feel motivated to try the SB way of life. I hate the word "diet". I quit smoking in Sept 07 and consequently gained 23lbs. I'm over the butts, not i need to get over the weight gain. Would like to be a size 8 again, pre-baby and quit smoking weight. Thanks for the motivation everyone.

Carol: I am new to South Beach and am looking for alternatives to eggs for breakfast. Any ideas?

Mary: South Beach is NOT a LOW CARB HIGH PROTEIN diet. This description is very misleading. It is a diet based on eating the good vs bad carbs and lean protein and vegetable. During Phase 1, in order to regulate your insulin levels and stop the cravings, your diet consists of lean protein and plenty of vegetables. Then the good carbs are gradually introduced. IT IS NOTHING LIKE THE ATKINS DIET WHICH IS LOW CARB HIGH PROTEIN. I lost 23 lbs 4 years ago and have maintained all but 5 lbs of the weight loss.

JuJu: After reading all your comments I'm going to try the online South Beach. There is heart problems in my family and am 57

Ruthy: Update: I am through the half way mark of the Phase 1...7 days and have lost 6 lbs. I will say my body is NOT adjusting to this new way of eating, but I am sticking it through since I'm seeing results and this good 'ole body has to submit to me and my new way of eating not me to the body's cravings. Good luck to you all! P.S. And like Carol I would also like a new alternative to the eggs...I can't think of anymore ways to "disguise" them. Thanx!

Ruby: I am going to try this. I wil start tomorrow. I need to lose a lot of weight (over 100 pounds)so I can use a lot of help and suggestions. I was wondering if you kind people would help boost me along. I will check in as often as I can. Thanks

kathleen: Work partner and myself teamed up in April on SB diet and have lost 15 lbs in 2 monthes. The love handles disappeared and tummy dropped fat.I feel and look so much better and everyone has noticed the positive change and have started themselves.

sheba: do you have to stick to the meal plans in the book or can you just look at foods to enjoy in each phase and eat those?

Izzy: Can someone please tell me if this is good for diabetics. I am on insulin and having trouble losing weight. Any suggestgions?

ELAINE: i'm just considering doing the SB diet with my husband and was wondering what the average weight loss is in Phase 1. I'm about 50 pounds overweight and he is only about 15 pounds overweight....thanks for any comments!

carole del monte: I started on the South Beach Diet in January, 2007. I lost 20 lbs in a short time, which was my goal. I find that once having committed to Phases 1, 2 & 3, now, even if I "fall off the wagon" I watch the scale & get back to the SBD way of eating, without needing to start over in Phase 1. It just makes sense in how I feel & look & of course how the new clothes fit! I tell everybody about the South Beach Diet with explanation of my great experience, stressing that they won't have to go hungry. There are a lot of people who don't want to make the commitment, & who are dissatisfied because of that. I hope they become "enlightened" to this great lifestyle.

groe: My husband and I both are on the beach... He has lost 43 and I have lost 31 lbs. He adapted quickly and lost weight right away - For me tho the first two weeks were hard - felt sick and didn't hardly lose a pound but stuck with it and will make it our way of life not a diet. Another bonus. My husband has been on cholestrol medication for over 10 years and even with the drugs his count was well over 200. After being on South Beach his last cholestrol count was only 138.

mike-fw: Before I start the Sb diet, I would like to know what foods you can and connot eat in the different phases and how do I get that info before I decide if this diet is for me?

Nancy: I started South Beach on Monday. Today is Friday (4 days) and I have lost 11 pounds. No kidding! I'm sure it's a lot of water weight, since I weighed 280 at the start...but this is very encouraging. I do miss the candy and cookies, but I keep thinking about how great I can look by Christmas time. Anything worth while is hard, and this is too, but it's doable. I mix the Hershey's sugar free syrup in low fat ricotta cheese with some sweetener, and it has kept me going so far. Good luck to all.

Cindy: I haven't started the South Beach Plan but I am seriously considering it. Thanks for all the posts re: this diet. I am feeling for encouraged now about SB and I really think I am going to give this a try this week. I am sooooo tired of the yoyo dieting. Any tips for me??? I am allergic to all dairy...will this be a problem?

MsKC: Hi all! I am so encouraged by all your great comments. I start this diet tomorrow with a friend from work and today we are going out to buy all the different foods for the 1st 2 weeks. Thank you for the inspiration.

DinTX: My husband, daughter and I have been on SB since end of May. Did so-so at first, but lately are all starting to gain back in spite of backing off the allowed Phase II carbs. I wondered if we needed to join the online club, if that might help. Any advice? Thanks! D

jeanette: i am 65 years old and was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. it was recommended that i take an expensive drug as my triglycerides were over 800. not wanting to spend that kind of money, i decided to go on south beach diet and take the sugar pill prescibed for once a day. in three months, i lost 19.3 pounds, my triglycerides went from 825 to 241; and my cholesterol, ldl, hdl and a1c have all gone down. having been on south beach before, i knew it let you lose weight, but the health benefits are even better. thank you, south beach and thank the lord for his help. i go back in three months and hope for even more good results. thumbs up.

kristie: I recently had gall bladder surgery and gained 30 lbs in 2 months. Long story short, my liver did not adjust to the loss of the gall bladder. My doctor told me to try the SB diet and in 2 weeks I have lost 15 lbs. Not to mention I feel so much better. My extreme bloating is gone now!! Yes, it is hard to give up bread and sweets, but it is worth it to lose the weight. All weight loss will require some sort of sacrifice.

rachel: I have about 20 lbs to lose and have lost 4 in the past couple of weeks. For the most part, I no longer crave the disgusting food I used to eat. I think this diet is really working for me.

Ruthy: 2nd Update: I started SB on 6/5/08...it's 7/21/08 and I've lost 16 lbs in a little over 6 weeks. My body has adjusted quite nicely and my migraines are gone!! What a great added benefit. I have 10 more lbs to go. I have cheated here and there, but the next day I immediately go back to the Phase 1 way of eating for 3 days following and I get right back on track. I am now accustomed to making better choices for my health not to mention how great I feel about how I look now. For those considering this diet...it's worth it...yes, Phase 1 is a tough one, but it's the foundation for getting your body detoxed and prepared for all the healthier food you'll be eating. Not only will you lose weight, but from my experience and what I've read, if you have any medical conditions, changes are the SB diet will help it as well. Good Luck to all and keep up the good job!

chey: to Ruby: try not to get discouraged. I too have over 100 lbs to lose or give in to diabetes and high cholesterol. My10% of my present weight, then another 10% and another until I reach my goal.

Tara: I started The South Beach in Febuary of 2008 and have lost 40 pounds. I have 30 more to lose. I seem to be at a standstill. Any suggestions on what to do to kick it back in?

Jo: Today is day four for myself and my husband. So far I am finding it very easy, though I feel a little light headed in the mornings, my husband is handing in there. He is an type 2 insulin dependent diabetic, and after just a few days his numbers are already coming down. We are very excited about this as his numbers have been running really high. I think that SB is going to be a god send for him. I want to lose about 40 lbs and he about 65 lbs, I truly believe we have found the solution. Good luck to everyone on SB.

Michelle: South Beach is simply the way everyone sould eat in general!! Our society has learned to consume too much sugar and fat!!!!!

nish: i heard about this from my sister, i wanna start it but i don't know what is the right things to eat. Can someone help me?

Paula: SouthBeach Diet is great! I lost 23 lbs 4 yrs ago on it and kept it off. Although I love pasta ... I found that this was a much easier than a low fat diet for me. I never felt hungry and felt that my selection and quality of food was much better. I have changed my lifestyle and although am not always on the diet when my weight goes up I just start the "no carb" way of life until I'm back in check. Would highly recommend.. Great cookbooks too!

cindy: UPDATE: I posted earlier before i started SB on 6/29, and i'm so proud to say that i have lost 24 lbs in that time! I don't feel deprived at all, and I'm finding the menus and the recipes to make a lot of sense, and they're delicious. Couldnn't be more pleased with my results! THANKS!

Carol: Ilearned about SB last week on the 700 club,Today was my first day,I usually don't last one whole day,but done great and feel satisfied,I am excited and will keep you posted.I have 100 lbs to lose.today is july 28,08--Thanks, I love all the great comments, very encouraging.

art: I just started the diet. My wife started 6 weeks ago and got me onto it. My brother did it a couple of years ago and went from 265 to 190 and has stayed there since. I don't have that far to go, but I do have the genes. I've lost 5 lbs in the first week, but it has been hard, weak spells and headaches. Concentration has sometimes been hard, and my job requires a lot of it. I'm hanging in there though. Has anyone else had these symptoms?

Marsha: For me no diet has ever been easy on the onset and SB was no exception. But I stuck it out because I WAS noticing weight loss almost immediately. 3 lbs the first week for me, 4 more the second, etc, for a total of 21 lbs in 5 weeks. Now that I am used to eating this way, its really pretty easy & makes sense. And I started feeling pretty "normal" by the second week, no more headaches or fatigue or anything. Best diet ever!

Phil: I lost about 30lbs two years ago. Since gained it back. I have tried to go back and it seems that the lbs won't come off? Anyone have the same issue or comments?

RS: I lost 24.5 lbs on the South Beach Diet. I customise it a little by my own variations of Indian Food. Does anyone have thoughts on replacing eggs for breakfast.

Ruth and Jim: My husband and I are in day 7 of week 1. I had problems the first 3 days with headaches but now they are gone along with the sugar cravings. I can't stand the sugar substitutes out there so I put lemon in unsweetened tea and in my water. This is the first time I did not cheat on a diet and have already lost 7 pounds. My husband has also lost 7 pounds. We are both in our late 50's and we exercise at least 3 times a week.We are looking forward to phase 2 in another week. We are using Dr. Agatston's book as a guide. Good luck, everyone.

"B": I'm on Day one of Phase I. I'm doing this with my husband to be his support (plus I don't want to cook two different meals so thought what the heck, I'll do it, too.) My head is pounding due to lack of caffeine. I'm drinking decaff like the book says to do, but feel like I need a lift and I could get thru this. Must we go cold turkey off caffeine or is 1/2 ad 1/2 okay?

"mama": I was at my wits end....i was so heavy it was a chore just to get out of bed..i started SB in July of 07 and i have lost 69lb so far i went from a size 32 to a size 24/22 i want to get to a size 18 not small but small for me.. i have kinda fell off the wagon lately...eating more sweets and carbs than i was at the beginning i guess when u lose u get a little cocky..but i am starting the Phase 1 again ...want to see major results by Christmas at least..i lost so may inches that i inspired a lot of people at my job to start the SB they went and bought the book and got started...it is a life style change...even with me not following it exactly i have not gained any thing but the losing has slowed ...it really makes u think even when u cheat...Thank You SB

"Tala": Well, here I go. I have tried so many other diets, hopefully this will be the one that helps me lose that last 20lbs...

cheryll: I'm a Type II diabetic, my doctor recommended that I try this for not only weight loss but also blood sugar control. I have been on the diet 2 days and have seen a dramatic drop in blood sugar. Normally I'm about 189 - 210. Yesterday it was 121 and today it's 87. Has anyone else had these kind of results? The problems I'm having with Phase 1 are the eggs and salads. I don't like either. Is there some substitution especially for the twice daily hit of greens? At least with the eggs you can disguise them with veggies and canadian bacon.

Claude: Does anyone have a recipe for a great South Beach Diet Birthday Cake?

satisfied and thin: I have used the South Beach Diet after the birth of both of my children to lose that 40 lbs that just never seemed to come off. I'm in my 40s so losing weight is harder now. The diet is amazing - I eat great food - I have great energy to exercise and it is so easy to follow when I'm on the road for work. I've lost 45 pounds and am thinner than before my kids. It's drugless, safe and healthy. I highly recommend it!

Patti: Does this plan promote exercise?

Laura: Exercise has been a part of my South Beach Diet plan, for sure. I followed some of the workout videos at first because I was out of shape & didn't know where to begin. Since the beginning (and since losing 27 lbs) I've joined a gym so now I do workouts on my own. I still use the weight tracker on the site & the journal, I am aiming to lose 10 more lbs by the end of next month.

Tami: Claude, did you check the link someone posted above? I've found some delicious recipes online in the past, never looked for a birthday cake though, maybe they have one? Good luck! Oh, I wanted to say that this is a fabulous plan, I first read this review 3 months ago or so and then started on SB Diet. As of today I am down to 138 lbs, from 172!

teresa: I have struggled for four years with my weight. I tried the Adkins diet 3 years ago, and did well for about 5 months. Every time my husband and I fell off the bandwagon, I would gain back all my weight plus another 10-20 pounds. I am going to try South Beach, I finished reading the book, and feel I could really make this a life style for me, not just a DIET. I think that the principles in the book are geared to teach you how to eat for life, not just to lose weight.

Rick: I've been on the diet a week. My only problem is that I am starving an hour after I eat a meal. I eat a snack and I am again starving an hour after that. Anyone having the same problem?

mama: just checking in i have had a bad week this week .....i just binged like crazy...but i vow to get this under control again...i came to far to fail now...so as of this moment i am back in control of this ....SB all the way.... not a diet a life style...it is easy.. just remember u can not fail u may fall but u can get up and start again .....so i am up and running....well walking real fast....lol

Dana: For the most part I am doing okay on South Beach too but sometimes do get cravings. Didn't wanna give up, I saw that someone had post info about Hoodia Bites here though and I have to say, its helped me maintain control btwn meals. Learning to control my portions has been a challenge, I'm hoping once my stomach shrinks I won't need them, we'll see.

Ronda: I have been on the diet for two weeks and have lost about 14 lbs. The food is good and it is easy to follow when you put your mind to it. I hope I can keep losing weight as the time goes by. I am going to stay on the phase I for a little bit longer. I can't believe how good it is and it really works.

Eunice: I've been on SB for 3 weeks and have not cheated at all. I have only lost 9 lbs and seem to be stuck. I'm 52 and in menopause--anyone know if menopause is a factor in losing weight?

Lana: Well i am LOVING this diet, its not even a diet anymore, its a lifestyle, really. Been on SB for almost a year (started 8/20/07) and lost the 37 lbs I needed to, & kept it off for the past 6 mos. I am not really sure if menopause is a factor in weight loss but, it could be. But, 9 lbs in 3 weeks sounds pretty good to me. I would say I averaged about 1-2 lbs/week on this, and my doc assured me that was healthy. SO, don't give up!! It works & its great!!

Coralynn: I have been on the southbeach diet for a yr and a half and absolutely love it! It is the most effective weight loss program I have ever tried and I have gone from a size 28/30 to a size 14 and fro 350 lbs to 195. I would recommend that you give it a real fair try because the first wk or so is tough, and after that it is a walk in the park. You will on look and feel grt. BUT the best part is that I was on 17 medications for many different medical issues and I am now on only 2. I am so greatful to Dr Agatston for finally creating something that is enjoyable and healthy.

Mazer Moo: I started the South Beach Diet on 6/30/2008 weighing 256 pounds. I had tried every other diet known to man, HATED water and exercise, and didn't believe anything could help me. Until I read Dr. Agatston's book. Just by sticking to the "allowed" foods, drinking more water, and getting AT LEAST 15 mins of cardio exercise per day (usually just walking, and not very quickly either!) I have found success!! I am amazed at the ease and simplicity of the South Beach Diet, and also amazed by the results. Nothing has ever worked for me--NOTHING. Today is 8/31/2008 and I now weigh 224 pounds, thanks to the South Beach Diet. I feel absolutely great, not only about my health, but about the diet itself, and I am very passionate about it. If you have struggled with your weight and yo-yo dieting, PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!!!!! I hate to sound like an AA meeting, but: IT WORKS IF YOU WORK IT!!!! (and it's NOT hard! I promise!) Thank you South Beach--for changing my life!!!

Keith: My wife and I started the South Beach Diet program today. She has been on every diet immaginable with mixed results. She loses a bunch of weight, then gains back even more. I am a scientist and I usually advise her against the various diets. But I reasearche dthis fully and can see no problems with the way you eat on SB. The science and the insights into our history and how it lead to our overweight unhealthy society make perfect sense. This is the first time I have actually looked forward to any kind of "Diet". My wife needs to loses about 80 lbs and I need to lose about 60. I am hoping we can get it done and be healthier "forever" through this.

alicia: HI Keith, Yes, I agree with you....South Beach is really a very "doable" diet with reasonable menu plans and foods. The online version is even better...i can go on there and get lots of helpful tips and encouragement, as well as really useful information customized for us. This is actually something I've stayed with for quite a while....doing well! 34 lbs lost! Good luck to everyone!

Sylvia: I went through Phase I and lost 8 pounds and felt good, low and behold after a month and man dinner parties I have to do Phase 1 over. My question does starting over affect metabolism and weight loss.

Casey: Oh, I've been there Sylvia, unfortunately. Been doing South Beach for 4 years and mainly pretty good though its always the holidays that get me. I find a do best to go back to Phase 1 sometime in January and that puts me back on track. Maybe not the best thing to do but it works for me, and I always lose. The diet got me down to a size 6 from a 12 and I've genearlly mainteaind for 3 years now, other than those holidays, like I said. I'm sure you'll do fine too.

Stephanee: I have been on this diet for about a week and a half. i have only lost around 2 lbs. I have stuck to Phase 1 pretty consistently, with a few slip-ups, but those are bound to happen. I also work out for around an hour every day. I figured i would lose more than just 2 lbs. in the first week. i am trying hard to stick to it and remind myself it takes time, but i'm so impatient and slowly starting to get frustrated! any suggestions?

Laurie: I started the South Beach Diet under my doctors advice as I suffer from Insulin Resistance. It's been 11 days with the South Beach Diet and exercise I have lost 19 pounds in a short period of time and my blood sugars no long fall or spike. I am off of all Meds for insulin resistance and feeling awesome, I can't wait to step on the scale at the end of the week to see what I have accomplished. I'm 45 and my South Beach goal is to drop 45 more pounds and Watch my granchildren Graduate and marry unlike most of the people in my family who have died before 60 due to heart disease I VOW to accomplish this phase and change my life style for Life. TY Doc for this wonderful Diet combonation it's AWESOME!

Susan P.: It's been 4 mos since I began on South Beach Diet and I am really feeling good about it. I have lost 18 lbs to date and feel good about that. At first I felt a little frustrated too but once I was down 6 lbs (the point I could actually SEE the changes) I had renewed confidence. I stopped weighing and started measuring it was much more reliable in the beginning. I think I will follow this for a while, eating this way I mean so I am not upset that its gradual. I think the slower pace is better for long-term anyway. So glad to see others have success, all I can say is stick with it!

Kathy: Followed Phase I for three weeks with great success, 12lbs, and was greatly motivated. Fourth week added 1l2 cup strawberries almost daily and 1/2 sweet potato three times...no loss. I am on synthroid for hypothyroid and was so excited that I had found a solution to not losing. Now, I feel a little concerned. Please tell me, I will continue to lose. I work out an hr. a day, six days a week.

lainey: hi, Kathy - i was EXACTLY where you are (minus the thyroid meds) about 3 weeks ago...i was stalled in my progress on South Beach, I had hit a "plateau," and i was bummed. But i got back into "losing mode" and so will you, esp. with that workout schedule! Hey, have you ever thought about switching up your mode of exercise? That was one thing that i think helped jar me out of the plateau, i switched it up. I started jogging one day, riding the recumbent bike the next, back to jogging, occasionally doing elliptical or walking. You don't need a lot of fancy equipment, just sort of surprise your body with something different. Another thing i found useful was a decent weight loss supplement...the one i use is called Slim10. It's got an excellent blend of metabolism boosters and appetite suppressants. That and the exercise changes got me back on track...I've lost 11 more pounds since making those changes. Good luck! you can and WILL do it!

mamasays47: hi this has been a bad month for me i was doing great but recently we have had to evacuate for hurricane ike and i have been eating like crazy...i have gained weight i can feel it in my clothes but i am determined to get back on track...while staying at the hotel i have attempted to excerise a little but not like i was doing before and i know i am eating the wrong things..but at least i am aware of it ...so i know i can get back on track, i've come to far to lose out now i still need to lose over 100lbs and i am determined to do it.

Nissa: My husband and I are both doing the South Beach diet. We started 2 weeks ago and decided to stay on phase one for at least one month. My husband is really dedicated and at no point did the diet seemed difficult for him. He packs his little snack and lunch in the morning when I stay home with all the temptations. We are definately loosing weight that is for sure I just don't know what is the secret in staying strong? Did any one ever try a appetite suppressant?

Cyndy R.: Okay well all these positive comments convinced me to try it. I just signed up for my free week on south Beach diet online. I need to sort of try out the recipes and stuff first before fully making a commitment, I've failed so many times before. These posts are very encouraging though, I think this is "the one"!!

gretchen: For me, Phase I of South Beach was toughest for sure, because you have to adjust to this new way of eating and living...but once you get to Phase II, it doesn't feel so weird anymore, and I was more or less adjusted to it. ALso, I lost about 9 lbs during phase I so it helped me stay motivated. GEtting RESULTS Is a really great way to stay motivated. But it's def. not one of those "quick fixes" where the weight just flies off instantly. that;s not the kind to do, because the results dont last with that. Now, I'm in the third phase, which is life time maintenance, and i am feeling pretty good. I do have to avoid the pitfalls of my food cravings, but that's somethjing i have to be dedicated to for life!

Tabby: THere's no doubt, Phase 1 of the south beach diet is the worst. I really didn't think I would get through it, two weeks is a relly long time to give up on sugars and starches and caffeiene. I DID make it though and have moved into phase 2. I think that if I got through that I can make it for the long haul..

Madeleine: Hi does anyone have weight gain after you get through this though? I like the idea of SOuth Beach Diet being a lifestyle change and all but how realistic is it to actually maintain the weight loss for a long time? I am so tired of the yo-yo diets amd need something i can count on.

Petra: The south beach Diet is the best diet I have ever done. I am still on Phase one, I attend to only start phase 2 after I lost 7 more pounds. It is hard that is for sure, so I try to be creative with cooking, the south beach diet cook book is really nice but I always somehow end up adding a thing or 2 that are allowed list into the recipe.

Chet: Yeah so I tried doing the south Beach diet and the fact that I couldn't drink milk in the beginning of the diet was a real deal breaker. I like to eat my cereal in the morning, take milk in my coffee (decaf of course, on this one) and need to get my calcium. Couldn't do it, sorry.

Eva_Roberts: Yes, when you are done with phase one and phase 2 and begin with phase 3 of the south beach diet, you tend to be more flexible and without knowing it you've put a couple extra pounds one. It can always befixed by going back to phase one but for me once I was done with phase one I never wanted to do it again. So just know that's an option but it's super hard to go back. I'll suggest doing phase 3 seriously so you don't get into trouble:)

Liza: Hi Madeleine, Obviously, the maintenance part of a diet is the hard part....no matter what diet. But SOuth BEach gives you so much guidance, support, and information. Plus, once you understand the principles of the diet, it becomes simple and automatic to make wise food choices. I have been on phase III (lifetime maintenance) for 2 years now, and i have maintained my goal weight. It can be done, and i think people on South Beach have a higher success rate than most, just because the diet makes so much sense.

Kate Hess: No diet is ever really "easy" I guess but for as great as South Beach is, it is vERY difficult at the start. I don;t know whether your supposed to or not, but, I did take an appetite suppressant while on this (HoodiaP57) otherwise, I probably would;ve failed. Cravings just tend to get the best of me, I know this about myself. But I was able to get down to 136 lbs, from 168 and thats really all I care about at this point.

kelly ann: South Beach is not "instant results' and sometimes you will have plateaus and maybe even backslide a bit...but then you just get back on track. Its a good diet, and its got all the foundations of lasting weight loss. You just have to be patient and dedicated. I sometimes take a Hoodia pill when i'm feeling vulnerable to cravings (like high stress times). this helps keep me on the straight and narrow.

Charleen: South beach is really a great diet, the book is fabulous and makes so much sense. In practice it was not as easy as you people are describing, at least for me. I really tried hard to only eat what was allowed but after awhile it became very difficult and I would find myself having way more peanut butter than I should. I knew it was bad and was seeing results of my diet but still could not stop myself. I too take and appetite suppressant and it came so much easier. I really recommend a supplement for people like me who really want to diet and are struggling, no need to give up.

steffie: Well, I think compared to Atkins (which was my last failed diet) South BEach is like a dream. It's similar principles but much less strict and much more manageable. I've lost 23 lbs in 2 mos and i feel great.

Randall: Didn't wanna do this my wife talked me into it. She was on it herself and doing all the cooking anyway, the biggest problem I had was exercising. We made time for it, though and I'm addicted to the gym now, and usng that weight tracker kinda kept me motivated too. South Beach diet works, if you are open & dedicated.

evelyn: so i guess i should be happy that i lost 8 lbs and am eating better, but man I am still 36 lbs from my goal weight. south beach diet is just so SLOW, i wanna lose the weight already!!

Kimberly: I am so determined to lose 35 pounds, and I'm in the middle of Phase 1, which as we've all said is just killer, but I've made my mind up to losing this weight and South Beach is giving me the guide lines that I need to make it happen. I'm following it to the letter because that's the best way for me to do a diet, obsessive/compulsive can sometimes be good in the diet world, and I'm going to beat this fat! Once and for all!

Alysia: The only thing I really missed in Phase 1 of the south beach diet was being able to have the occasional glass of wine with dinner, but it was so worth it to get through this part, and I've all ready lost 12 pounds, know that Phase 2 is going to be easier, and by the time I get to Phase 3, I'll have conquered this weight issue, once and for all. Perhaps I'll open a bottle of champagne to celebrate.

Mike: As I agree that the south beach diet makes sense. I think it is way too difficult to stick to. I am not a great cook at all unless you can cook really well the diet can become really boring to the point where you can't even look at a cauliflower. The frozen food is really bad, I mean I can't cook but I really know food. So, I had to stop.

StarLa: But is SOuth BEach really any "slower" than any other REAL diet? I mean, yeah, weird diets where you eat nothing but cabbage soup or take laxatives or whatever might make you drop 10 lbs in a week, but that;s not real weight loss bcs it comes back. I think all of the genuine, long term diets like WEight Watchers, South Beach, etc. all have periods when they're slow and difficult, becauise you are working toward a goal. So really, it's just the question of whether you want to work toward a long range goal and gradually achieve it, or whether you want a cheap "quick fix" that is going to last about 5 minutes.

n.p.: its good because the south beach diet is not just like drinking some shakes and hoping its gonna fill you up and let you loose. I had 0% success with SLIM fast. i am learning WHAT to eat and HOW much to eat on this diet program and that's why i am pretty certain that the weihgt s gonna stay off for good. only 11 more lbs to go.

Dave: Someone mentioned wine, well for those of us who like beer it's even harder, if you decide to do the south beach diet, just say good bye to beer forever. Beer is not allowed at any point and that's really hard-MALTOSE. I am loosing weight though and that's what want for now.

gemma: Well maybe i'm not to picky but i like the Frozen entrees from South Beach. There are some really good ones! I guess its just a matter of taste.

Savino_J: Really??? No beer ever again? I didn't know that. Are you sure there's no beer allowed?

Allegra: When my husband and I got married, our combined weights were somewhere over 400 pounds and we vowed to get our bodies into shape before we'd have children, so that's exactly what we're dong. South Beach is right for us, a little slower than we'd like, but he's lost 12 pounds and I've lost 9 in the first month, and to keep us going we've put baby pictures all over the refrigerator...that really helps, keeps reminding us of our goal...I know we can do this.

Lou: I am doing the south beach right now and have lost 13lbs, I need to loose about 25 more and just can't wait so I have been looking at supplements and it seems like Nuphedrine has good reviews. mY favorite recipe is the breakfast parfait phase 2.

Elise: Oh I completely understand what you're saying StarLa, fad diets don't work for the long term like the South Beach diet does. Still, I sometimes find it hard to keep motivated when my weight has barely changed from week to week. I know you have to look at the big picture but there are days when I feel like, whats the point in continuing? I've been on this 4 months and am doing okay, not giving up yet, but...it isn't easy.

harry: man, theres no way any baby picture on my fridge would motivate me to lose wight. Only thing that might do is motivate me to wear a condom, hahah. But South Beach is working out pretty good for me. I am not sure how much pounds i lost yet, but ifeel my pants getting loser.

Roy: What about light beer?? My wife didn't tell me this part of the South Beach diet.

TrishaThompson: I was really surprised to hear someone say that preparing South Beach Diet meals is hard...i found it to be so simple. just last night i made the Grilled Sesame Salmon for my boyfriend and i and we both LOVED it! took me less than 45 mins.

Martina: The book was good and makes more sense to me than some other diet plan books I tried before. Fat Loss 4 idiots and some of those others, they don't really give you all the tools you need like the South BEach Diet does. I felt good after Phase 1 and am doing great on Phase II, hopefuly this is the last diet i will need.

April: i read that on www.thedietawards.com you do the SOuth Beach DIET(or several other diets/ programs) and show a before and after pic, they PAY YOU $1,000! is this crazy? have any South beachers or any body else done it? i think taht would DEF help get me thriu the "slow times." :)

Laura: Sorry but I have to agree with whoever says that this diet is slow. In the beginning I was all gung-ho for the South Beach DIet and lost 7 lbs easily. For the next two months, only 2 more lbs. I just thinks its worse to be "on a diet" and not really losing than to just not diet at all.

Julia: South Beach is the way to go, it's just that sometimes I want a cookie or something sweet so badly...do you think popsicles or life savers would be ok on occasion?

kelly gibbs: i am making progress on the South Beach. I am nearing my one year anniversary and am down 47 lbs. i'd like to loose 13 more total.

brenda: LOVE south beach...the book, the recipes, the foods, the support. YEs, it took time for me to reach this point (57 lbs lost) but I'm here now, and I plan to say here! i look like a different person.

kimberleigh: You know, South BEach Diet does make some yummy cookies and chocolate coated wafers that you can get right at the grocery store. I happen to like the dark chocolate/peanut butter bars, they taste great and only 100 cal.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid: Have just begun looking into diet plans and found this site for the south beach diet from sensational.com/diet. They gave it an awesome review too. I am strongly considering the South Beach diet, it seems pretty reliable. Has anyone read the "supercharged" edition, is that any faster?

Celine: I love the south beach diet but I could never do it without an appetite suppressant. I just wanted to share that because south beach is really an awesome diet and it would have been a shame if I had given up 2 weeks after starting.

Kaitlyn: I've only got 14 pounds to go, but I feel like if I don't have a piece of chocolate cake I might kill some one! Do you think I'll ever go over this? Somebody told me that the Weight Watcher's Deserts are pretty good, do you think it would matter if I sort of mixed up the South Beach with the WW? Or would that mess it up and I'd have even longer to go...

Patti: Its the food aspect of the South beach diet that works for me, my eating habits were pretty bad throughout my 20s but my metabolism started to slow at 30 and then the exercise just wasn't enough to keep it all off. I tried some of hte workout videos and am not impressed but the recipes are good, easy & helpful. Thumb up.

Nina: Did you guys use olive oil on phase 1 of The South beach? WE did and I wanted to share a great recipe : Basically, poor a bag of endamame in boiling water for 3-4 mins. drain the water and put the endamame in a bowl then had one pint of tomatoes, 2 -3 scallions cut, fresh cilentro, olive oil and lemom oh and salt and peper. Yummy. Sometimes I add snow peas if they are cheap.

Zina: I just read all the post and I am so excited to get started with the South beach diet. I am impressed by the number of positive post, way more than any other diet I have been reading. Thanks:)

Hailey: I love the South Beach Recipes, cooking them is easy, and they make me feel pure and clean somehow...simple, delicious, healthy...what more could you ask for? I'm learning how to prepare food for the rest of my life, that's how I feel about it.

francine: thank you for the support and positve comments here. i am just in phase 1, 6 days in and it is hard not to cave. but will my whole diet be ruined if i do just give in once or twice. i am trying, just not sure if i got the willpower.

lindsey: Hi, thx for that delish recipe....I wasn't sure if Olive Oil was OK for phase 1 or not, so far I'm not using it. ARe you still losing weight, nina? that recipe sounds like the best. I especialy love snow peas.

NewLife: I just wanted to say that my whole family has benefit from the South beach diet recipes not only me and it is even better to me that loosing the weight itself. Knowing that i am not feeding my kids "poison" anymore.

Leah: I haven't done SOuth Beach Diet but here's what i want to know: just how strict is it with the CARBS? because i dont think i could get rid of carbs entirely, i LOVE them. I tried Atkins once and it was so severe i couldn't continue.

kerry clark: 3 yrs ago i was on Atkins and lost some weight but my cholesterol levels skyrocketed so i had to stop. By last May I was back up to 210, 13 pds heaveir than when I started on the atkins diet. At that point i turned to the South Beach diet and in the last four months i am done 27 lbs, and feel so good. The diet is easier and the support is greater, I am praying for success wiht this one, in the long term!

nessa: its probably its okay to mix & match the packaged foods? you don't have to be "on the diet" to make the south beach diet recipes. my husband is not on it but still loves whatever i make, and once you get to phase 3 its not so strict anyway.

Debby: South beach is too much work in the kitchen, I just don't have time to cook all that food. My husband is really picky and won't eat any veggies, and my kids only eat mac and cheese or chicken fingers. I tried the south beach for a week but had to stop, too much work and really hard.

claire: It is not like atkins at all, South beach diet is tons easier to follow and not so strict on the carbs. phase 1 is the strictest but after 2 weeks its over.

Anabelle: In my supermarket, we have more frozen food and cans than fresh produce, what a shame I don't buy it but that is what happens when you live in the middle of america, far from the city. So no the south beach diet was not gonna happen for for me. I tried though but still looking for the right one.

KatherineRoahrig: Is it ok for teens to be on South Beach? I've got a grandson that's 30 pounds overweight, and he's almost 18.

gladys: Well, i know south beach might be difficult in the beginning, but so is any diet! you just have to get used to some small sacrficies in order to reap the rewards. I have lost 74 lbs, thank the lord and i never plan to go back to the way i was.

Nicole: Anabelle, I believe you can substitute frozen for fresh, it might not taste quite the same, but don't let that stop you from trying South Beach! It will work for you, slowly but surely, and you'll be eating in a very healthy way, no matter where you live. Don't give up!

Mona: I agree as far as diet plans go, the South Beach diet is a wonderful plan because you eat healthy meals, it allows for snacks and it does not deprive you. It also helps teach us how to make responsible choices for food and overall lifestyle, which so many others fail to do. However, AND THIS IS MY POINT since so many of us have come to rely on fast foods or processed foods, it may be difficult to make the transition to better eating, even on this diet. We are only human after all, and our habits are hard to break. I kept trying this and I swear I did Phase one 3 times, back to phase one then all the way to phase 3 again and couldn't get throuhg it until I added Nuphedrine (http://www.nuphedrine.com/offer ) to stop the cravings. Finally I gained control and am making the rihgt choices and the weihgt is coming off. Good for you if you can do this alone, but some of us need a little extra push.

suzanne: hi if you cannot get fresh produce i have a tip...try some of the organic frozen vegetables from companies like Cascadian Farms. I swear, some of those veggies taste SOOOO fresh you really can't believe they are frozen. I live right in the 'burbs and i can find a lot of these organic products. It helps a lot to have the stuff taste good. So far so good on the South Beach diet!

Peter: Well I know if I hadn't gotten through phases 1 & 2 there's no way I'd be able to stick to phase 3. I made the commitment with some help too and am seeing the benefits even 18 months later. The South Beach diet has changed me.

rose: ArRe there any restaurants where i can get a south beach diet meal,. liek they have the weihgt watchers at applebees?

Bette: Oh THANK GOd for the tips! I was gonna about to DIE only on day 3 of the south beach and nneed some support. Never thought about taking something to "aid" me while on the diet...will look into these. THanks again.

Sam: The good thing about the South beach diet is that you can eat any where. You just have to remember what is allowed depending on the phase you are on.

amanda: My husband and I started the South Beach Diet the beginning of september 2007. We did the 1st phase for about 6 weeks. We stuck to it like a T. That is the only way. If anyboby has the will power and the self control to stick with it long enough than anybody can do it no matter what. If u really want to loose wieght then this diet is excellant and will work for anybody. i have lost over 70lbs with this diet and we did taebo 5 times a week. the taebo helped tighten everything up as we went. i told people in our church about this diet and 8 of them tried it and it worked for them and it still is working. you have to want to and to have the self control. this diet is good because the third phase teaches u to maintain what u have lost. i was 230lbs when we started and i hit 160 in march 2008 and i am still 160 and it is the end of september2008.

cliff milza: hi where can i purchase the south beach pizza that you advertised on tv with 19grams of protein thank you CLIFF

Tammy: I am starting tomorrow I just have gained weight over long period and did SB and lost inches fast them dumbie me quit so now I am at it again I joined online to keep me motivated GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!!

Denise: HELP! HAS ANYONE LOST WEIGHT SLOWLY, BUT CONSISTENTLY ON SB? I've been on SB for the last 2 1/2 weeks and have only lost 4 pounds! I'm feeling discouraged because I can tell that I am feeling healthier, and want to stay on it, but I have to lose about 30 pounds. I'm afraid it doesn't work for me--and believe me, I am doing the diet correctly. If I continue to lose an average of 2 lbs. a week, that would be fine. But it's discouraging when you read in the book, or on a blog like this that people are losing 8-13 pounds the first 2 weeks. Anyone slow but steady?

cathy weismer: Hi Denise, I can relate 100% to what you're saying.....I have also had a bit of a slow progress on South Beach, but it's been progress all the same. In fact, I think you should be happy about 4 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks, I had only lost 5 pounds at 3 weeks! But there's something about hitting that 5 lb mark - and you will hit it soon if you keep going - that really encouraged me and kept me going. Sometime after the first month, when I was really starting to hit my stride with the diet, my progress sped up, i started losing about 2 lbs a week, sometimes 3, and by the end of my second month, i was at a total of 14 lbs lost. That started to make a big difference because my jeans were practically falling down. Then i started to plateau again, but i was not about to quit. I took Slim 10 for a while to pull me out of the plateau, it really helps burn the calories - and by month three, I had lost 23 lbs! I am now in phase 3 of South Beach, and I don't even feel like i am on a diet anymore...but I'm looking and feeling great. That's the thing about losing the weight slow and steady...you're not all afraid of regaining it fast, bcs the diet has become a regular way of life. You know? Anyway, i would say to you, hang in there....the beginning is the toughest, everyone agrees! And NOT everybody is having these "miracle" results. But if you stay with it, it will get the job done for you. Good luck!

angela: I feel the saME WAY ALSO I get on the scale and i go up and down Im still in my two weeks I cant tell if I loosing or gainin i promised my self ill continue anyway because this is help for people who have diabetes

Kathy: I'm in the beginning of the second week. I have lost 7 pounds already, I'm finding it not so hard to do. And I'm really feel good!

bonnie: do you have to go online and pay the $65 quarterly to get help with your goal and what about over 55 and "flabs" of skin that hang above your pubic area, does it get rid of that???

Lucy: The South Beach Diet is a great diet for older woman - I'm 57 and now weight the same as I did at 27 (122) Lost those 32 lbs & feeel great, am thinner all over. You don't have to pay, you can just read the book, bonnie, but doing the online program gave me the extra support I needed. GOod luck! They have a link on this site for the best deal.

Nancy: My husband & I have both been on the South Beach diet for 5 years. We lost 30 lbs. each and have maintained that loss. Ken had metabolic syndrome and has now balanced out his chemical levels. The big news is that I had breast cancer in May. I had a very invasive type called infiltrating lobular carcinoma. I had a double mastectomy. The good news is that it didn't spread to the rest of my body. The doctors couldn't believe it. I credit the South Beach diet with all of it's foods that are high in antioxidants as the reason that my cancer did not spread. All of the magazines preach to us to eat antioxidants to avoid cancer. Well I am living proof that they prevented the spread of my cancer and will stay on South Beach for the rest of my life.

Amy: I started in Jan 08. I have lost approximately 80lbs. I am now at 148lbs and it still seems to be coming off. I think I must have really jumpstarted my metabolism. I am 5'8" so that puts me back into the "normal" range. I feel like I eat all of the time, but I am still losing about a pound every couple of weeks. I guess my body will plateau when I get to where I need to be. I never starve and always eat!

ETHEL CENTOFANTI: I have siged up and paid 65.00 nand I have not heard from you and dont know what to do next

Doug Rus: I have tried many different programs over the past 10 years and this one was the easiest for me to stay with. I have lost over 25 pounds and with the variety of foods available, I don't ever get tired of the program.

Sandy Wolford: Joined the South Beach DIet online program on 8/11/08, so three months ago and have found it to be quite worth it. I have folllowed other diets straight from the book but most don't have the variety of recipes or facts available, plus, I like that this is constantly updated! One i can clearly stick wiht for a long time...28 lbs and counting!!

Carrianne: Ethel - have you logged into the website since signing up? Try that, you will have access to all the info, etc southbeachdiet.com/login

Kath: I have a question. Can I try the ACAI berry pills along with the South Beach diet? We've beenon SB since mid-September. I don't weight myself, but some clothes are falling off my body, so I guess that means I'm losing. I'm at Stage 1.5. I haven't added many carbs back into my diet, just a few every now and then to keep things "moving". :D

Tami: Hi Kath, I am not familiar with the exact pills/drink you're talking about but I've read that Acai berries have lots of antioxidants. Probably no harm in taking them, though personally, I have not needed anything else on the South Beach Diet, lost 47 lbs in 4 months and am still doing a doubletake when I glance in the full lenght mirrors! Congrats to you, and everyone else...this diet has really improved my health and overall quality of life, I know you can all do it too!

Joann: I think it's unfortunate that it's called a "diet" at all! It's not so much a diet, as a teaching tool to teach you how to eat healthy and treat your body well. It's not something to use until you lose the weight and then abandon until the weight comes back on. It's a lifestyle. The initial phase is restrictive and can be a hard 2 weeks for some, but it's merely teaching your body and your brain the best way to function again and how to fuction without all that processed food we so easily consume. Cheers to good health and a happy body! I'm already on the road there myself!

Marty: I have been on SBD for two months and have only lost 7 pounds. I am a pear shape and the latest book that was the hardest shape to lose weight. I never cheated on Phase 1 and only lost 3 pounds. I have had ice cream once and no other sugar or whites that I am aware of. Please help. I do have more energy and don't get that afternoon slump.

Karyn: Everyone loses weight differently and even a diet as comprehensive and practical as the South Beach diet is not an overnight success for everyone. It was slow for me at first too but I had seen my mother transform pretty quickly. That was my inspiration, to change as dramatically as she had so I kept with it. Plus, just seeing that I was actually losing was motivation. I have now lost a total of 21 lbs in 4 months and am very proud of myself. I stil have a little more to lose but the key is, I am confident that once i lose, the weight won't come back.

Jaimee: WOO-HOO! This is the best diet plan EVER! I just made my one year anniversary of when I reached my goal ( lost 52 lbs) on the South Beach Diet and I am 4 lbs lighter even! I started at 182 and am now at 126 lb and feel great!

Anonymous: This diet is great and a healthy spin on a low carb lifestyle

Joan: South Beach worked for myself and my husband. Phase one can be tough, but anything worth achieving takes a bit of hard work and perseverance, and the result can be fan-tast-ic.

shauna: Hi, I'm looking for a South beach living buddy, I am 28 years old and started phase one last week, i did really well for the first week, lost 7lbs in 7 days) and then becuase i was in a bad mood over soemthing non-diet related and i ate a mini twix, followed by another and another...you get my drift!! Anyway so hear i am back at first day on phase one, I would love to have contact with a couple of people via email/IM where we could chat/motivate/congratulate or comiserate each other.

Elizabeth: Hi Shauna, well I understand your frustration because I have been there myself. For me, this blog has been an excellent source of motivation and feedback while on the South beach DIet. I think its great that you have not just given up on this, and seven pounds in one week is no small feat. You know that you CAN do it, so you will be able to lose more. I did not lose the weight very quickly in the first two weeks, and was starting to get frustrated. I went online and read the blog posts and got some good advice (like, be patient & don't give up) and kept seeing the amount of weihgt that people have lost. THat was very motivating to me, and I've been following the diet going on 5 months now and feeling really good. To date, I'm down 44 lbs from when i started & every day that I start to feel discouraged, or overwhelmed by temptation, I just check in with my fellow Southbeach Dieters and it keeps me on track. Just know that we are all in this together, so we are here for you..hang in there!

Vicky: The south beach diet has been a part of my life (6yrs), and I had 2 children in that 6yrs. I had to go back to phase 1 (4 times in 6 yrs)but every time it works I started out @170lbs and went to 135lbs very little exercise walking only. I am proud to tell you 6yrs later 2 children back on phase 1 now at 152lb today it works I love it MY kids eat that way and my husband.

linda: i am on day 1 of phase 1--have tried this diet before and was very happy-within a wk i cld breathe easier in my clthes -it is jan15 09 -i have hopes of taking off 35 to 40 lbs by may --hope all you fellow s. beach folks will be behind me -i intend to check and write this blog every day--

emily: hi bloggers! i am on day four of phase one, and i am neutral about my progress. i am not weighing myself, yet. before i began this week, i was a HUGE junk food eater, only 3-4 lbs overweight but relying too heavily on carbs to fulfill my hunger. i'm pretty bummed about the alcohol aspect of phase one, but optimistic about the future. i have been going completely by the book (recipes, meal plans, foods to enjoy/avoid, etc) and feel good about the choices i've been making. i was TERRIFIED before beginning because i had SO MANY cravings for sweet and savory--both non existent in phase one. thanks to everyone for the tips and encouragement...and congrats to all who have tried this lifestyle--to those who haven't (yet)....what are you waiting for?

Peggy: I am starting phase 1 on 1/18/09. It is very important to me that I do well after the 1st 2 weeks otherwise I will probably not stay on it.

Kat: Phase 1; Day 1....and doing well. I have had a bit of a nagging headache today. Otherwise, there's lots of food out there that I CAN eat! I think I will be okay. Hoping to lose 30 lbs or more. The menopause belly fat sucks. Emily, great job! Thanks for motivating me! MAS

Eileen: Currently I'm 12 days into PHase 2 on the South Beach Diet, having lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks on phase 1, and 6 more in the past few days. I never thought I would be so excited about dieting before but all the tools & recipes on the website really help with my motivation for sticking with this. It offers a lot of guidance for me that, frankly, other diets I've done in the past have not. I think thats why I'm doing so well and feeling strong. If anyone is struggling on this, i just want to say that its realy helpful to take advantage of the online component of the diet..its what's keeping me going!

Ellen: I started 2 weeks ago, it was tough but got used to it. Unfortunately had a big weekend and fell off, wondering if I should start over at Phase 1 or move on to Phase 2 and start there. any suggestions??

Sandra: Has anyone experienced constipation during phase 1 of the SB diet?

lauren: Ellen: in my opinion it would make more sense to resume where you left off on Phase 2. Phase 1 is tough, and you successfully got thru it, there's no reason you should have to start all over again. One bad weekend doesn't kill a diet; i think that's the biggest mistake dieters make, thinking "all is lost" if you mess up a little bit. Just get back on it, and you'll be fine. I had a pretty significant lapse around the holidays, but i got back in gear and have since lost 14 more pounds. you can do the same, just continue where you left off and don't give up. Good luck!

brenda: I'm really proud of myself: i reached my goal of 42 lbs lost on South Beach one year ago today. And i haven't gained ANY of it back!! as a person who's always been good at losing but terrible at maintaining, this is huge. (but i'm not!) YAY!

Jennifer: I am very happy with SB. I am on day four of phase 1 and feel good. I have already lost 3 lbs!!!

Randi: I love this diet, I am trying to stay positive as I get through Phase 1 but I can see some results already

Anonymous: this is the best diet to date i have tryed alot of diets and they were to restrictive. This diet is easy and the weight just flies off. plus i feel 100% better from eating good carbs and fats. I've been in phase one for 6 weeks and i have lost 23lbs. im going for 40lbs which is easily reachable with this diet. Read the book it is worth the time.

Emily: Sandra--YES, and it is normal. I recommend legumes or beans of some sort. Fiber is lacking in phase one, and it is a problem for many. I would also recommend adding a fiber supplement into your diet such as Benefiber or Metamucil. It will definitely help over time. If you're experiencing heavy discomfort, I would recommend a laxative.

Kendall: I have been on the South Beach diet for about 4 months. I lost 25 pounds and then around Christmas and New years I put on 3-5 pounds (it fluctuates...) I've been back on track for over three weeks now and I just can not loose that extra weight. It is very frustrating because I would like to loose 20-25 more pounds. I exercise daily, eat healthy... I just don't know what to do??? I really love this diet and it has become more than a diet... now it is a lifestyle. I've been reading other forums and they say to have a 'cheat' meal etc.. but I really like the way I'm eating.. occasional fruit and protein, dairy, and a lot of vegetables, and don't really have a desire to have a 'cheat' meal. Anyways, first I would (and have!) recommended this diet to everyone! It has worked amazingly for me and I just love it. Secondly I wanted to ask for anyones advice on how i can get out of this awful plateau!!!

Judith: Me too, I also had a problem with the lack of fiber on Phase 1 of South beach diet. What I use is cleanseRx, its not laxative per se, but it does have fiber and cleans out my system. I've been on South Beach diet for about 10 months and incorporate this cleanse ever few months. It gets out all the colon build up & then helps rebalance my digestive system. I;ve noticed an increase wiehgt loss of about 8 lbs the months I;ve used this, for a total of 42 lbs lost so far, which is close to where I want to be. The diet works, good luck to all!

nicole: hey girls & guys...i agree the South Beach Diet book is awesome..i also decided to kick it up a notch and go on the online program as well....it just gives a bit more community and guidance for my specific issues, in real time. But the book is fabulous too, i just like to have all the help i can get. And Kendall. i would say if you are liking the way you're eating on South Beach Diet, you definitely shouldn't force yourself into "cheating" just bcs someone on a forum said so, that's silly. soemtimes i get thru plateaus by using a fat burner not loaded with caffeine. that helps get me over the hump, metabolically, so that i'm losing again. good luck 2 you all.

Wendy: I have been on SB for 4 weeks now. Phase 1 was really quite simple and since I enjoyed the way I was eating, I decided to stay on it for the past 4 weeks. In the first two weeks, I lost 8 pounds which is what Dr. Agatston explained I could expect. However, over the last two weeks, I have only lost 2 more pounds. Now mid way thorugh I had been to two parties, one night after the other and ate sushi made with rice, and some desserts. Not recommended I know, but I guess it was a weak moment. What my concern is, with remaining on Phase 1 for this long, I expected a least a bit more of a weight loss. I really am stumped since due to those two back to back parties I have been following the diet to a t. Has anyone else found that their body just does not want to drop pounds? Does anyone else feel as though they are destined to be fat forever, not matter what they do, short of starving themselves and working themselves into a puddle of sweat everyday?

monica: This is my 11th day on Phase 1 and I have lost 3.6lbs. I do not have much to loose but it's those last dang 10 lbs that are the hardests. I have been stuck on the same weight for the last 6 days, is this normal? Should I go on to Phase 2 even if I don't budge another ounce??? HELP!

Tracey: I am very "anti-diet" and pro-nutrition/excercise. It is my educational background and passion. I recently gained 20 lbs during a very stressful year, which included an injury, and was in dire need of some motivation. I had a look at the SBD and really liked that phase 2-3 really isn't a diet, it's an education on how we should be eating. Lots of veg., lean proteins, most fruits, and wholegrain carbs. I needed motivation so I decided to do phase 1. WOW! By day 14 I was down 9lbs and I didn't limit one favorite thing. I continued to drink 3-4 cups of caffeinated coffee with cream daily. Frankly, with the omission of most carbs I needed the caffeine for energy. I also excercised every day for at least 30 minutes to rev up my metabolism and ensure that my weightloss wasn't just water. I was very skeptical about the claim that the weight loss would occur around my mid section (which is where I have gained..welcome to my 40's!). I purposfully didn't put on my favorite jeans that I recently decided I could no longer wear due to the muffin top that was produced when I did them up for the entire two weeks of phase 1. I put them on on day 15 ond OMG! my muffin top is indeed gone, not smaller, GONE! All of my clothes fit much better, I'm 11 lbs from my goal weight, and I'm motivated! For me this is the big benefit of phase 1. The extreme restriction of carbs long term is not healthy but for 2 weeks it won't hurt and the motivation you receive is incredible. My only negative about South Beach phase 1 is that constipation was a real problem for me. I'm confident that now I'm into phase 2 it will improve with the addition of whole grain carbs and fresh fruits. Drink your water (mine with lemon please) and enjoy!!!!!! The ONLY "diet" I will recommend!

Renie T.: Tracey I think most of us would agree with you that constipation is a real problem with phase 1 of South beach diet, but its nothing a good cleansing product can't solve (imo cleanserx works best) Speeds the weight loss along too, give it a try.

jessie: I love South BEach Diet, but its not exactly a "quick fix" diet. it takes a while to start showing results. when i hit my first plateau with south beach, i got kinda impatient and i almost stopped but then read about slim 10 which is a metabolism booster. i started taking that to sorta jump-start things and sure enough, i started losing again. I'm glad i didn't quit, because south Beach Diet has really done an amazing job for me. Total of 57 lbs lost!

Dominique: I am on day 5 in phase 1 and have not lost a single pound. Is this common or is it because I only need to lose about 30 pounds total to reach my goal weight?

Tracey: Thanks very much Renie T. I'll check that out.

Mary: I went on the South Beach diet & lost 20 lbs in 2 months. My son gave me the original diet book a few years ago and I thought it would cost to much for food but last November 2008 I purchased the small book that lists all the foods and on what phase you can or can't eat them. I found that I eat alot of beans but I feel so much better not. Thanks for the South Beach diet for I had tried for 9 years to lose that 20 lbs. Thanks! Mary

danielle: about 4 yrs ago i went on this and lost 17 out of the 36 lbs I needed to and after maybe 3 months i hit a plateau where the weight wouldn't budge. i was frustrated and went off the diet and regained only 6 lbs over the years. i just recently deceided to go back on the SouthbEach diet and got rid of 11 lbs rihgt away in phase 1! the rest came off within two more months, i'm so glad i cam e back to ths. i thin that, i was just more focused & determined this time around.

Sue: I started the South Beach Diet and here was my problem I couldn't do Phase One.. My very succesful solution after a week of nausea was to jump to phase 2 and work out harder. I think some bodies just are meant for that much eggs and cheeses( dairy products) etc. I have been on stage 2 for several weeks and I am loosing the weight feel stronger and look better than ever. My mood is awesome and I don't crave sweets at all. I was a Pepsi aholic and now all sweets are just too sweet to eat. Except the ocassional small slice of birthday cake. So don't get discouraged if you can't do Phase one, move on to the next Phase and the weight will still come off, just slower! I think the basic logic of this diet is very sound. And remember It's your heart health that counts.

Amanda: I find that South Beach Diet is very flexible, its not nearly so "severe" as Atkins, and it allows for human flaws, & still works. Basically, it has u eating the proeper balance of protein, carbs, vegs, etc. in a way that is natural and therefore your body responds to that, & you reach your healthy weight naturally and without torture/deprivation. Its not nencessarily the "fastest" diet in the world, but the weight stays off, which to me is way better. i lost over 30 lbs last year & have kept it off without struggle, just by following the overall principles and exercising.

Shane: I personally think phase one is a must, it is kind of a detox phase where I actually lost most of the weight and bad habits or cravings for carbs and sugar. I also lost a lot on phase 2 but at a much slower pace. I am so pleased with this diet, I never thought I could loose 32 pounds and still eat mulitipe meals if I wish.

Agatha R.: Just wanted to come on here and comment that, it was 1 year ago today that I lost my last pound - all 47 lbs that i needed to - by following the South Beach Diet. I have continued following the basic priniciples/eating plans since then because, as you say Sue, it IS a very logical diet & not so hard to adapt to. It feels real good to be able to maintain so easily. PHASE 3 FOR LIFE.

Felicity: I actually started right before the holidays and only lasted on Phase 1 for four days, simply out of boredom. I lost 4 lbs on Phase 1, and feel it was necessary to quickly remove all sugar cravings. I have been loosely following the plan (so, I guess, Phase 2 / Phase 3) for 4 months and so far have lost a total of 10 pounds. I feel great and people have noticed my loss (I'm short so it shows up easily!) I have about 15 pounds to go and am fine with losing slowly using the very sensible South Beach guidelines. I rec this plan to everyone, whether they want to lose weight or just eat more healthily and avoid diabetes, high cholesterol, etc. South Beach Online is the real deal!!

sharon: I have went and bought all of the food for phase 1. My husband and I are doing this together he needs to loose like 50 lbs me just 10. Can you really eat as much as you want during a meal? I am confused on portion size? I am also a carohydrate addict are the side effects from phase 1 real bad I am so scared! What can you do to lessen the effects? Thank You so much for all who can help me!! I have been in bed for just about a year with foot surgeries so I am not allowed to exercise for another 4 weeks I hope I still am able to drop some calories. Do you only loose inches on your waist how about the thighs and buttocks ladies! I have gone through surgical menopause and I need to take off inches all over :)Look forward to hearing from you Thanks Again Sorry so long winded:) Sharon

Carol: Sharon, hi..first of all, congratulations for taking the first steps, those are often bravest and scariest, so give yourself credit! I know any change in lifestyle can be a littel bit freaky for a while, but its not so bad at all..Phase 1 is definitely the strictest as far as reducing carbs, but remember, once you get thru that phase some of the carbs are reintroduced in the nexxt phases. so there is always a "light at the end of the tunnel." As far as portion sizes, they're normal portion sizes, not totally unlimited or anything, but decent. Most South BEach Diet Online recipes (or recipes from the book, whichever) will include information about how much a serving is, or - if you wanna make it even eeasier, the South BEach Diet meals you gt at the grocery store are all pre-portioned for you! so maybe if you're the type of person who worries about overdoing portions you can try those to start. But eventually you will be able to sort of "eye-ball it" as far as estimating a normal serving size. As far as where you lose the weight from, if you stick with the diet you can expect to lose overall weight form your entire body. I mean, e veryone probably has a place they lose from first, but if you persist long enough to reach your goal weight, you will definitely see an overall reduction in inches. Best of luck to you!! If i can do it, trust me, anyone can! ;)

Moree: I have just finished my last pizza suppr for what i hope will be a long time. i am seriously at wits end at this point and am hoping that south beach will save the day. so tomorrow i am starting fresh.... i hope to be able to stick to sb so ican finally lose the extra 30lbs im carrying! - The South Beach Diet

Kristine N: Oh I know how you feel Moree, I was there. On nights when I was too tired to eve think about cooking a healthy meal, pizza or pasta with extra parmesan were my quick fixes, and i always felt guilty after. I did not think that phase 1 was easy by any means, but you know what, i feel beter for having stuck with it. I am doing the south beach diet online and they have a lot of excellent recipes, some for quick meals too and thats been a life saver! In hte first month I lost 13 lbs and am hoppng for the same results in this second month. Good luck to all.

Italia: I lost 40 pounds on the SBD and have maintained the loss for almost a year. I hit a plateau and decided to move from a pretty strict, phase 1 existence to adding more carbs. I have stayed at 40 pounds down. Recently, I have decided to go back to phase 1 and the weight is coming off again. I'm heading to Jamaica in 3 weeks and finally...FINALLY...I don't feel freaked out about putting on a swimsuit! This regimen has been a lifesaver for me. I've been the classic "yo-yo dieter" for my entire adult life and I have to agree with the posts others have made, it's a lifestyle change, not just a diet. I feel great and I look completely different. Hooray for The South Beach Diet !

Tracye: I've been on the South beach since Jan 2009 in that time I've lost 30lbs. I feel so good. It was my sister who go me started. We've tried sevreral diets they worked long as we stuck to them. South Beach is so different because it is one that you can do for life.I so glad my sister didn't give up on me.We are in the thing forever. Nothing feels better than being healthy and thin. NOTHING!!! In rating SBD it's number on my list. I work in plant atmosphere and I'm telling everyone about SBD. It's the BOMB

dawn abrams: wow congrats tracye! thirty lbs in such a short time is commendable. i am just beginning the south beach diet online, only 4 days in, and feeling a little, frustrated. i did okay the first couple days but today, i have more cravigns and am just dying for a chocolate chip cookie! i came to the blog to try & distract myself, and seeing the success sotries helps a bunch! i don't think i've lost anything yet but hey, its olny been few days. i think, if i can get thru these two weeks, i'll be okay!

LucyLew: I've been on the diet for a little under a month and have lost 22 lbs so far. The diet has been pretty easy as I love veggies, but I'm starting to get a bit discouraged as I have not lost any weight in the last week. I do feel tons better and have way more energy. I'm definitely going to keep on the SBD as I think it's a good plan whether one needs to lose weight or not, but I hope to start losing again - soon !

jessica miklewski: Hey, one thing i noticed about The South Beach Diet is that even when I hit a so-called "plateau" on the scale, I'm still seeing inch loss, which def. helps me to not be discouraged. A good way to start this diet is to actually take your measurements at the start, along with your weight. I used a simple piece of yarn...relaxed stomach YOU WILL SEE that in a few weeks that string will get longer....as it does not touch you anymore.... as you get smaller, its amazing!!! I mean yes sometimes as you go the scale numbers may stay the same, but like this you can still check on the inches and see real progress. Doing that at the beginning is best, but you can probably do it at any point in the diet too. I've lost 3 inches off my hips, which is awesome, and I'm still seeing loss. Good luck to everyonee!

Kiki P.: I "started" the South Beach Diet today, but fell off the wagon in the afternoon after a very upsetting doctor's appointment. I'm going to have to try a medicine that I'm nervous about, but need to try. So what did I do? Drove to the supermarket, bought my favorite kind of cake, and ate most of it in the car! I am a stress eater, in response to uncomfortable emotions. I was doing so well until that doctor's appt. Does anybody out there experience this, and can you offer any suggestions for help? Writing about it helps. I'd like to submit a comment every day for the first two weeks. Is that OK? Kiki P.

Kiki P.: Kiki P.: Hi Dawn Abrams. It sounds like you're doing really well. Getting through the first four days is an accomplishment. I blew my Day 1, but I'm going to pick myself up and start all over again.

Tiffany: HI Kiki, yeah, i tend to break down and over eat when I'm stressed too, anxiety is one of my biggest "triggers." So i am susceptible to that no matter WHAT diet i am on. So far the South Beach Diet has been pretty reasonable and helpful for me, I've been doing well. But just in case, for those times when I'm feeling a little more vulnerable to temptation, I'm taking a natural Hoodia p57 for appetite suppression and its helping a lot. ANyway, good luck to you, and definitely keep us posted! I've lost 23 lbs and am really proud.

Michelle: Was wanting to know how much lettuce salads & vegetables you can consume in a single meal. I eat a salad for lunch and a small one for dinner along with a small piece of meat and stir fry vegetables. Is this O.K. to eat on Phase 1 - can anyone help me with this question. I would really like to stick with the South Beach diet - it has helped in the past but I had friends doing it with me and now I am by myself doing it. Any suggestions.... Thanks

Nan D: Hi Michelle, during Phase 1, I ate more lean proteins and some healthy fats, and not so many veggies, just some more high fiber ones. I don't know if you just have the book, but I've found the website to be EXTREMELY useful, you can sign up here if you want recipes and all that southbeachdiet.com/freeprofile

Layne: I am a busy college student with very little time to cook or organize Phase 1 meals all the time. I was wondering if it would be ok to replace two of my meals each day with a Low-Carb Slim Fast shake (carbs= 6g; calories= 200). Does anyone know if this goes along with the theories of South Beach Diet Phase 1 or would it be hurtful in the long run???

HeidiJ, KANSAS: Phase 1 of South beach was very important for me, it helped me actually get thru the rest of the south beach diet without having cravings. ITs really more about, eating well, not meal replacement. So Layne, even tho the shakes are low carb, they probably still have sugar...so it mihgt not go so weell. I've found a lot of really great reciipes online, from the SB site, and most of them take less than a half hour to make. You'll feel beter once you get into the routine.

natalie: the meal planner from south beach diet online is super helpful for me! i even have tried some of the vegetarian recipes, and they are lots better than i ever expected meat free meals to be. been on this for 3 weeks so far and lost 13 lbs already! it's actually sorta fun to diet this way, its more like, experimenting with foods, for me.not restrictive at all.

carolyn: Hi everyone, just started SB today and found this board. So far so good with phase 1. Found it to be pretty easy as far a preperations re: foods. Wanted to put this in black and white to reafirm my committment. Good luck to all on this weight loss journey.

mabel: phase one was the toughest part, for me, and i have to say i;m glad to be done with it! now on phase2 of the south beach diet, doing it online, and feeling good. love the foods, and lost 11lbs so far.

randy stokes: I lost 25 pounds in 5 weeks on the South Beach Diet! The most important part for me was going to the gym and doing cardio for 35 minutes 4 times per week! Do the diet and hit the gym without cheating and you will drop weight like mad but you MUST excersize! That is the key! That combo is a must!

jr48: the meal planners are a god send i swear. never been able to stick to a diet like this before, in my 4th week and so far i've lost 19 lbs fom south beach diet online. not sure why, id din't try this sooner.

Beverly: Hi, I love the south beach diet. It works for me, the first 2 weeks is a bit stressful just because I can't have sweets, fruits, cereal etc. But what the heck 7 healthy lbs off of my stomach and it In all 2 weeks 7 1/2 lbs lost YEAH! My dermatologist suggested I lose 20 lbs. Well he knows me and said if I lose the 20 lbs. I would look and feel better, and I do!!!!!!!!! This is the only plan that works and the best part is is good for my heart, which is healthy and I want to keep it that way

Tanya: I definitely lost alot of weight very quickly when I did the South Beach Diet and I didn't even exercise at all. I lost over 15 pounds in the first 2 weeks. However, beware if you are not going to stick to this diet for Life because I gained everything back and probably even gained double back once I started introducing carbs back into my diet. But it definitely was a great diet if you want to lose alot of weight fast. I did it right before my wedding and my dress had to be taken in significantly!

sherry: hey, tanya, actually, the south Beach Diet is meant to be a lot more than just a "quick fix," actually. For me, the weight loss was more gradual but it has stayed off for over 2 yrs now. Also, exercise is a key component of the diet, and certainly if you started increasing your carbs without exercise, you are bound to gain weight. It sounds like your difficulties started when you went off the diet, not when you were on it. I don't love exercise either, but I've come to accept that it's necessary for me in order to look and feel the way i want. I've been holding steady on South Beach maintenance and regular exercise for a while now, and I bet you could too! good luck, whatever approach you take!

sugar: im starting sb on monday 6-8-9 and i have been eating healthy but still eating sweets.i know its hard the first two weeks but is there anything you guys can say to make me feel better? and me working out at the gym is that a plus or would that make me gain muscles onto fat?please write back and let me know! wish me luck everyone!

yo-yo: Hi Sugar, I am starting the diet today too. I tried it in the past, but didn't stick with it even for the first two weeks! No cheating this time. My metabolism didn't just slow down, I think it stopped! I am going to force myself to get out and move somehow this summer (I am a teacher and have the summer off so no excuses!) Biggest problem for me is no wine. I like a glass or two in the evening but I know there is a lot of sugar in it and I am prediabetic (mostly due to weight). I need to drop 30-40 lbs but would be happy to drop 20 right now for health reasons. The gym is a great idea! Make it a routine. I use to go to one before I lost my job and now that I am a teacher, I don't make enough to join so I'm trying to do more at home. Walking, bike riding and swimming when i can. I will force myself to do "some movememnt" every day!

lorraine: Its true that the South Beach Diet is hard at first....your changing a lot of your habits, and human beings dont like change. but for me once i got past tjhe first few weeks it became almost automatic & the meal planers helped a lot. I didn't feel that awful "self disgusted' feeling after i ate, like i could practically feel the bad food going straight to my butt or stomach. i started feeling more...kind of pure.I still enjoy the meals i eat but the differnece is i stop before i get sickened by myself. for me that was the key - - when i realized you can still enjoy food a lot without eating too much of it or without eating bad stuff. i think, Sugar, if i can do it you can. i was the least discip;ined person ever before i started South Beach Diet.

susan: I started the South Beach diet Sept 08 and by Super Bowl had lost 63 pounds. I kinda slacked off in the spring and put 10 pounds back on. But I recommitted at the beginning of July and am happy to say that my weight is now 78 pounds less than last September. I love the diet, it's not hard to follow. I make the quiche to go for breakfast during the week to take to eat at work. My weaknesses had alwys been pasta but I don't miss it all that much--brown rice is a good switch. I love to bake for my family and sometimes the urge to sample what I am making is overwhelming. A couple of times, I've taken a big bite of a cookie, chewed it up, savored it then spit it out. Sounds gross but it works! So for anyone considering South Beach, I highly recommend it.

lorie: I was just told by my doctor to try the south beach diet. nobody is posting their age or initial weight so when I see the weight people have lost I'm assuming they needed to loose a lot of weight? I will give this a try but was also told that because I am 49 and due to genetics I will never be the weight I was at age 25 (which I don't want anyways), but since I am 5'3 and now am weighing 149 and want to loose 10-15 pds is the first phase really going to let me loose 5-7 pounds in those first two weeks? I am very active with treadmill, wii fit and jump roping but the weight just kept increasing but I also have hypothyroidism but am on synthroid for that. Any suggestions or help before I start this? thanks

MirandaD: Just got through the phase 1 on the South beach diet, and was not as difficult as expected. I struggled a little durng the first few days only and thn it was not so bad. stil,am glad to be done with it & ready for the next phase, goin in 5 lbs lighter!! will keep everyone updated with progress.

martha brady: i was eating the wraps that was in the food-lion store i lost 30lbs. in 3 months

Julie: I am one of those typical people who has tried a wide variety of different fad diets and workout regimens. I was extremely successful with the Atkins diet, but I was concerned about my kidneys and heart because of all the protein and saturated fats. I gave up until I came across a personal trainer blog who recommended the South Beach diet. The South Beach diet is a very effective and realistic way to lose weight. I have lost 60 lbs over the past 3 years thanks to illuminate gym and the South Beach Diet. Thanks.

betty: i read all the books here is my question i need a break down of what they need you to for snacks like protein or carbs or both their is no break down can sum one help me

Calista: The book is a great resource and is definitely what got me hooked on the South Beach diet. But I really think the website is invaluable; I use the meal planner from there and it makes my life SO much easier. Tells me what I can have fore every meal, plus dessert & snacks. Then i don't realy, have to think about the protein/carb breakdown, I just eat what they say I can. Definilty helps t keep my diet on track.

Anonymous: i have been on the south beach for 4 lost 7 ibs os great

Kimmy: 7 lbs in 4 days?? That's awesome! I need to hear that, wil help me get thru this first phase if I know I wil lose lots & lots of weight. Will be checkig in with my progress only on my second day.

clairevoyante: Just saw your who will be the first to post on DietBlogTalk Twitter, not sure if I'm first. Just wantedt to say thank you all so much. The south beach is by far the best diet I have ever down, I did it 2 years ago and lost 18 pounds. Great diet and I have told/gotten many friends and family members to do it as well. Most who have kept with it have also had good results. LOVE YOUR SITE!!! :)

Sam: I started following the guidelines for this diet about a year and a half ago and have been able to maintain about a 100 lbs weight loss. I weighted in at 300 lbs in February 2008 and lost down to about 185 lbs before leveling out at around 190 lbs. I really didn't do much in the way of exercise just my everyday activities. - The South Beach Diet

JC: This is a tried and true go back if you need to loose more later diet. It worked well for me the first time I tried it (over 30 lbs) and I never felt deprived. Ironically it started me on the path to eating more vegetables (I was raised on meat, potatoes, and pasta).

Julia: My husband and I started on South Beach on March 29 at our Doctor`s suggestion. To date we both have lost 39 lbs. My husband is a diabetic...his AIC dropped from 10.3 to 6 as of Sept 22.His insulin dose has been cut by 50% My blood pressure has dropped from an average of 150/90 to 110/82. I may be taken off my anti hypertensive drug in December. We both have the energy and stamina we haven`t had in years. We see this eating style as AS WAY TO MAINTAIN OUR HEALTH as we age gracefully.

betty nc: i have been on it for one month lost 21lbs i am so pleased

Rick and Randi: It's the end of day 8 on the South Beach Diet. After the first 4 days, we've adjusted, designed some recipes of our own, and Randi began Yoga class while I went back to the gym. we are doing this together and that has greatly helped. 8 days- I lost 10.6 pounds while Randi lost 16.2 pounds. We do crave chocolate cake, though. But we are determined to make this work and change our lifestyle to healthy food and active living.
